What the Dorruh are you doing to my Eberron?

Bear in mind: I'm not trying to dismiss anyone's concerns. There are changes in 4E Eberron - things like "PCs can have any dragonmark regardless of race" - and they won't be to everyone's tastes. Some of them aren't to MY tastes. However, the main thing is that I don't feel that I've encountered...

What the Dorruh are you doing to my Eberron?

There's not much I can say without breaking NDA. What I will say is that just because something is added to Eberron doesn't mean it's the same as it is everywhere else. Let's take Tiamat as an example. In Dragons of Eberron, we gave Tiamat an official place in the world. Now, you could say...

What the Dorruh are you doing to my Eberron?

Just to make clear, the content of my post is based on my interpretation of things and nothing more. My point is that the core mechanics of the world - shifting influence of the planes, manifest zones, the names and natures of the planes themselves - remain intact to the level that I feel no...

What the Dorruh are you doing to my Eberron?

Perhaps. Or perhaps the planes are all layered over the material. Perhaps Thelanis, Shavarath, and Dolurrh are all around you all the time, just as war, death, and wonder are always a part of the world, and it's simply the case that planar harmonies cause the walls between the worlds to fade...

Dragon 368 - Death Matters, Design & Developments

Well, it IS a thread about death - necromancy seemed like the appropriate response. ;)

Dragon 368 - Death Matters, Design & Developments

The specific word "destiny" wasn't in there. The concept that raise dead was a ritual that wouldn't work on most people - and was essentially at DM discretion - was. I understand the reasons for changing it, but I still keep it that way in my campaigns. Nonetheless, the point is correct: I am...

The "complete" list of announced 4E products for 08 and 09

They MIGHT. Nothing's certain. They're going to do what appears to make sense for WotC. If those first three Eberron books sell amazingly well and it's clear that another Eberron book will likely do as well, there's a good chance they will do another Eberron book. If the books don't sell, they...

    Eberron Campaign Guide June 09

Actually, I think it was Chris Perkins who said this particular piece. But the rest of it was me. ;)

Why the RPG hobby is an awesome one

I was wondering this myself. Eberron was certainly a lucky break for me, but looking at my life as a whole, I think I've got more in common with Ari than with The Rouse. (Although this might be another case of people getting me mixed up with RICH Baker. I don't now that I'd call Rich an evil...

    Forgotten Realms vs. Eberron

I'm playing 4E Eberron right now, and I hope others are as well. You don't NEED the 4E Eberron book to do it. However, our goal with the 4E books is to make sure that they are valuable for both old and new players. The world isn't CHANGING in the way that FR has (with the Spellplague, timeline...

    Forgotten Realms vs. Eberron

My point is that I don't feel Eberron WAS married to 3.5; we were engaged, sure, but there were always some sticking points in the relationship. We added action points into Eberron; in 4E they are part of core rules, and actually allow a little more of the "amazing action" I wanted (IE, you...

    Forgotten Realms vs. Eberron

I'll see you there, then. Keep an eye on my livejournal (gloomforge.livejournal.com) - I'll be posting my Gencon schedule there as the date draws closer.

    Forgotten Realms vs. Eberron

If you mean mechanically, obviously this is true. The 4E warforged have already been shown in Dragon, and there will be a version of the artificer this month; things like dragonmarks will also change mechanically. However, I wouldn't say that Eberron will be "very different". At the moment...

So, what did all the cool RPG designers do, originally?

It's true, though to be honest, I never expected to get into computer games - it was just a chance opportunity. I'd always been interested in roleplaying and board games, and wanted to be an RPG writer, though I didn't know how you got the job. In college I majored in English and creative...

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

Actually, I think that's a case where I've been playing against the rules when I have allowed the use of Aid Another in a skill challenge. As someone else point out on my livejournal, the section on "Group Challenges" sort of implies that these are the only circumstances under which people get...

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

Not at all. Again, when I wrote my post, I'd never read any of yours. I don't have any stake in the system, and I wasn't expecting to start a debate. I'm NOT arguing your math; the only point of my post was to present the things I've done that have made the system work for me. So absolutely...

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

Um... I know? As Wulf Ratbane said, I never intended - either here or in my livejournal - TO address the substance of the criticism against the skill challenge system. At the time that I wrote that livejournal entry, I hadn't even READ any of the threads about it on ENWorld. Again, not a 4E...

A discussion of Keith Baker's post regarding the Skill Challenge system

I have to admit, I was wondering the same thing. It's always fun to see my name in thread titles, but the fact of the matter is that I'm not any sort of authority on the subject. The intention of my post was NOT "You're all wrong! Skill challenges are perfect!" - but rather, "I've been having a...

    Interesting use of Disease mechanics

Because, as mentioned in the post, I was making it up off the top of my head and didn't actually LOOK at Cure Disease at the time. My thought was that it would take a higher-level ritual to actually mend a bone - something more akin to regeneration. However, in looking at the final form of the...

    Will all spells be attacks?

With a day to work, you could do far more with rituals than you could with similar Vancian magic. Short-term? Less flexible, certainly. Long-term? More flexible, IMO. Which again is why I like their potential for Eberron - because it's easy to see how they could be incorporated into daily life.
