    [June] What are you reading?

Just curious - were you reading Earthquake Season without having read Last Call or Expiration Date? It was basically a simultaneous sequel to both books... and frankly, I think Last Call was by far the best of the three.

    Origins Awards Winners

Thanks for the Eberron support, folks! It's an incredibly thrilling experience for me. Well, I must certainly give my mad praise to Cthulhu 500 and Ars Magica 5E. Check 'em out!!!

    [June] What are you reading?

While I loved Last Call, I didn't care for Earthquake Season. However, I thought that Declare was much better, so try that sometime if you haven't already.

    Give me your Dhakaani operatives

Well, you can find MY 5th level Dhakaani party at www.bossythecow.com (on the features page). However, it's worth noting that I only went with the core books and Races of Eberron, so arcane support is an evoker; also, becuase the party was designed to use in a pick-up game introducing people to...

    Eberron novels?

She... uh... tripped in a bucket of green paint? Jode's colorblind? Yeah, that's the ticket...

    Eberron novels?

What about Dek, the changeling from the King of Fire? He may be shady, but he doesn't do anything evil - if anything, Lei and Daine cheat him! This is a valid concern. The problem was that many of the characters have important ties to dragonmarked houses - which, in turn, defines race. And I...

    Eberron novels?

Sure - for Pierce in particular that is potentially appropriate, since he's Quiet Backgound Boy. But it's an excellent point and something I'll bear in mind in the future! Thanks Duncan!

    Eberron novels?

Thanks! Hearing that people are enjoying the world and the books certainly makes the "squatted over a fresh page and squeezed out the first novel in Eberron" reviews a little easier to bear.

    Eberron novels?

Adventure time! Gather the Cairdal Blades and the Draleus Tairn and wipe them all out, lest their tainted blood destroy us all!

    Eberron novels?

No, and one reason they aren't releasing things any faster is because I took too long to write The Shattered Land, so I'm to blame as much as anyone else. I'm going to do my best keep on top of things with Book Three. If I (ha!) end up with spare time on my hands, maybe I'll see if I can get...

    Eberron novels?

Really? Like working together evil? *sigh* I suppose I really need to read it myself to know what other folks are saying, but the Daelkyr and Lords of Dust don't have any common ground, and neither have anything to do with the EC (if anything, the Lords of Dust are most likely to use the minions...

    Eberron novels?

In my opinion American Gods is Gaiman's best work... well, novel work, since it's a different sort of thing than his comics. I liked Neverwhere[i/] as a show, but I was somewhat disappointed with the novel, which I expected to add more detail to the world. But as someone who is a fan of...

    Eberron novels?

It was the first thing I wrote about the characters (and as such, there are one or two slightly changed premises with some of the characters). It is a bookend to City of Towers, with most of the story set before, but a few critical points set after. And hey, it offers a few little things like...

    Eberron novels?

As they relate to my work, sure! Given the "no-novels" policy on the WotC board - which sucks up most of my internet time - it's nice to be able to discuss literature. All on my list as well. American Gods is a great book, and I love the Ice & Fire series (though I hope it doesn't become a...

    Eberron novels?

All I'll say is that if I ever end up on a list like this, I'll consider myself a lucky lucky guy. I'm glad that many people are enjoying City of Towers (well, except for the guy on Amazon who said "Wizards of the Coast opened a fresh page, squatted over it, and squeezed out the first book set...

When did gnomes fall from grace?

This is, in fact, the very reason this came up. I like the idea of a Child of Winter having a swarm companion, but having an animal companion that's immune to weapon damage (as most of the insect swarms are) is too powerful. "Go for rat swarm!" I said, until someone pointed out that rats aren't...

When did gnomes fall from grace?

Awww.... Yes, vermin and rodents (dare I say "burrowing mammals"? No, wait, that doesn't work either!) would have made more sense. The main thing is that as it stands, the Vermin Shape feat actually prevents the druid from assuming animal form, which I think may have been an unnecessary...

When did gnomes fall from grace?

Absolutely. I never said that I didn't understand it in game terms - simply that it came as a surprise to me when I realized it. Rats are animals, no question about it - it's just funny to me that the creature that is almost synonymous with the word (to quote one definition, "Various small...

When did gnomes fall from grace?

Perhaps. But personally, I think you're overestimating both "mutant powers" and the effect culture has on racial statistics. A halfling receives a +2 Dex and -2 Str. These are biological factors. It is a small creature incapable of lifting much weight. A halfling receives a +2 to Climb...

When did gnomes fall from grace?

I have no problem with that. Like I said, *I'm* content to leave them as they are because it keeps things simple. But enchantments are very appropriate for Zil culture. Ask a Thrane, and he'll tell you those gnomes are just a bunch of dirty rats. (Of course, this ignores your point that rats...
