[NSFW] Svirfneblin, Duergar, and Drow. Oh my!

Work is boring. Gaming is fun. Work should be more like gaming. Not Suitable For Work is a new addition to Combat Advantage, the free 4e series of PDFs from Emerald Press PDF Publishing. Every month will have a theme to which any number of brainstorming exercises will be made. Each week or so...

    [NSFW] Darkvision Alternates

Every time I start reading one of these, I faintly hear the sound of the Predator's clicking growl in the back of my head... Very cool, Mr. RangerWickett, sir. Wasn't sure about it being a standard action at first, but I see what you're going with here. Something like this can be too powerful...

Ah, there it is. Now I don't feel left out, just forgetful. ;)

Nice touches, Khuxan. Especially some of the names. Where did you get the name for "Schrodingermind?" (thank you copy and paste function)

    role-playing accents, dialects, voices, etc.

hehe That reminds me of a full story. Buddy in the group is being seduced by a lone woman NPC in the group. They were all trapped on an island after waking up in a strange lab, all that freaky stuff, and she's the only female in sight. Plus she's all innocent, dress hanging off her shoulder...

    role-playing accents, dialects, voices, etc.

I do these as DM for as many characters as possible and it really helps to make the characters stand out much faster. The noble ranger sounds like Sean Connery, the town guard sounds like the dopey cop from Hot Fuzz (the one who doesn't know how to do his job), and the manipulative devourer...

    [NSFW] Darkvision Alternates

Ooh, I like. The bloodier you are, the harder you are to see. Picture a character covered in blood, trying to sneak past a wraith, only to encourage the ghouls around the corner into a frenzy.

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Good job, everyone. I have to admit, these have been fun to look at and it's only the first week. There's a new exercise started (check the sig for the link) and this one will always stay open. They only end when everyone stops posting.

    Solo Campaigns

I like to branch off into mini-solo quests when the party breaks up (which is quite common and they do it all by themselves, they do). We're setting one up right now - the necromaster (his title) is distracting the lovely young wife of the evil wizard while the rest of the group explores...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Ahhh, good point. Damn fine point and since this is all meant as a brainstorm (meaning there's no serious evaluation, just discussion), it counts. Nice work. I just had a vision of a party stuck in a pit, taking their time to invoke a ritual within a trap. Then I imagined I'd have to make up an...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

77IM: Simple, but does the trick. I think this falls under granting darkvision prior to the third step, however, as they do have it as soon as using the first ritual. But I think the ritual itself would work fine at that level if only for one character. I agree that nothing too much higher...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Tuft, remind me to never let you be the DM at my table. ;) That's certainly how you grant darkvision... among other things. Nice job.

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

True enough. I don't really have any of the others worked out so far (although I'm close enough to being set on the second exercise for this month), so I don't know if there will ever be an incremental difficulty as each exercise continues. Some may just be tougher than others right off the bat...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Eric, that is perhaps one of the freakiest submissions yet (although it's right up there with Minigiant's floating eyeballs), but it does leave me craving more. What does the eboneyes look like when not attached to a host? It's something that can really be fleshed out (or not, since it's more...

    [Ottawa, Canada] New Group Please

Looking to do more D&D with another group. Playing or DMing, it's all good with me. I live in the Nepean end of town and willing to drive mostly anywhere in Kanata/Ottawa. Please hurry! My dice are feeling cold.

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

No matter how it's done, the player cannot have full use of darkvision until the third step. Ranig, yours has full darkvision within the first step. Although it's only for the length of the stance, it's still available within the first available power. Just wanted to point that out. Like the...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

(copying down into notebook for personal use) Love it! Now we're talking. An old 3e character of mine had something similar to this but as a circlet on his head. Seeing through your gloves is an awesome switch.

I was wondering about that, but you're right. Nice job.

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

Nice. It grants a version of darkvision that's the same thing, but wags your tongue at the DM and says "It's not darkvision - it's an ability to see in the dark."
