How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

There is *nothing* that we are aware of that prevents an NPC from accessing a PC's abilities. At all. Ever. Its simply a matter of statting an NPC to have that ability. Which is completely up tho the DM. There is no reason a DM cannot stat an NPC with PC Classes. It is simplt acknowledge...

How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

You completely missed the point. Economics and Supply/Demand equate the worth of a diamond, to an individual, exactly what they are willing to pay. The single 1/4 carat diamond in my signet ring is worth $5000 to me. I'd want it back, and would reward for it, were it lost. I wouldn't pay $5K...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

Betcha can't prove it. For them or you. In your interpretation of the function of a ruleset[/quote=lizard]4e monster/NPC design, centered on the idea (explicitly stated) that NPCs only exist for 5 rounds of combat and don't need any stats beyond that, exemplifies the idea that nothing exists...

How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

Description =/ prescription Which is exactly why we have theories of material sciences. Not rules. Now.. The game world is a Computer. The rule a player follows are, lets say, Perl. There are many and varied layers of abstraction between the commands used in one, and their effects on the...

How Does "The Rules Aren't Physics" Fix Anything?

The rules are a toolset to enable the player to manipulate his avatar, as an agent of stage, in a setting created/maintained and implemented by the DM. Those aspects deemed generic enough are codified as rules, written down. Things like the skill challenges, loot tables, and other suggestions...

D&D 4E Alignment, 4e, you, and your paladins.

While it occurs to me that Chaotic Evil and Lawful evil are valid.. as is Evil, and Neutral, and unaligned, and Good, and Lawful Good... I actually think Chaotic Good is nigh on impossible. Not abiding the law, but good? Well.. that makes you Good. Its not a funny.. in an otter/duck. IE...

    D&D 4E New 4E Class: Gunner?

As I mentioned, Momentum and the trauma from a gunshot far exceeds that of a stab or a slice from a sword. Axes and maces are different again, and that is why somebody who could wield a mace effectively was a much scarier opponent than an average swordsmen, on the battlefield.

At will teleport and other 4th ed player fun

There's a better flufful reason for the warlock teleport. Cursing apparently grants the soul of the cursed creature to the Patron of the Warlock. I'm not sure he wants insects or critters.

8 power sources. so what are the other 4?

Somewhere, there was semi-official discourse on Ki, indicating it was NOT a seperate source to Martial. (I like this), Shadow and Primal are, for all intents and purposes, confirmed, in R+C and W+M, as well as related products (DDM). Psionics is highly likely. As people in the other thread...

    Dungeon Delve

Without wanting to be a pain, and in full knowledge that you have to subscribe to get access to search.. I believe the news page still has the links to several of the threads regarding this. There are many threads detailing it, with many different reactions.

At will teleport and other 4th ed player fun

I'm inclined to go against the fluff-as-written, and go with a short ranged teleport, that is powered by the same interactions that cause the shadowfell and felwild in the first place. This allows me to place a variety of restrictions on the ability, as long as they are consistent with...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

Str 6 20 lb. or less 21-40 lb. 41-60 lb - Apply the 3/4 limit.. = 30-45lbs That means that a Str 6 halfling could lift 130% of its own weight OVER ITS HEAD, as an average member of their race. And that is as encumberance, not a max-lift. See my problem? Str 4 is more accurate. <13 lb, 14-26...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

Making Halflings taller is a flavour change, mostly, from what I understand, because most people don't like playing actually small characters. Additionally, halfling size has always bothered me due to strength issues, mostly, (It beggar's my imagination to imagine somebody 3ft and 30lbs being...

    D&D 4E New 4E Class: Gunner?

Not the issue. The issue, as history shows, is that any monkey can fire gun, well, and fast. Longbowers had bugger all accurracy, and muscles to post in mister universe for.. at least on one side of their body. Crossbows are ok.. in terms of damage/ease of use comparison to a musket ball...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

The only possible accurate simulation is the system itself. IE - You can only carry versimililtude so far. You can only run certain parts of a world. You lack, as do all things, the complexity to accurately simulate anything more complex than yourself. Versimilitude has always struck me as a...

    Clerics can't heal (NPCs)?

I couldn't agree with you more. This is a function of the creativity and capability of the DM at hand.. not the ruleset. It should *not* be part of the ruleset, and in a very real sense, *cannot* be part of the ruleset. The rules are the toolset by which the players manipulate the objects that...

Cleave: Give me room to work, my minions!

Yup. The only really successfuly implementations of Cleave I've seen come from an Elven fighter/Rogue DW'ing thinblades, with improved critical. Fortunately, the guy playing the Elf in question is actually an actor in his real life job, so we had a rather talented Errol Flynn in the party. He...

Irresistible Force vs. Unmovable Object - Exception Based Rules?

You win @ thread. You're wrong, but I'm a MT:G geek. So. I don't see this kind of scenario occuring, to be honest. As stated already, you'll get the "X is immune to Slide effects." Then you'll have the ability "X is slid y squares, irrespective of immunities." The ability contains the...
