Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

I understand where you are coming from, but I think you miss part of what I'm trying to say, mostly likely because I'm not saying it well. What enables choice? Why do some chose other ways? You'll get no arguement, from me, that it is the decision to branch out and try. The strength of will...

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

How do you justify an story or an adventure hook? How do you actually say "I'm normal" Are people like (Godwinned!) Hitler, or Idi Amin, or Martin Luther King, or Gandhi or Columbus, or Cook, or Cortez, or Richard Branson, or Bill Gates, are normal? Do you think, I mean, you personally, think...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

To be honest, I think that if you look at 'conversion' as a process of re-imagination.. So that you take the clearest aspects of your characters, their strengths and weaknesses, the roles they like to play, and their backgrounds. Then you apply them to the 4E options, and take your closest fits...

    Did anyone else notice...

I disagree. I mean, all you'd have to do is state that all diseases and poisons work on the animus, and this is reflected in changes to the body, rather than affecting the body, and working changes on the animus. Same for sneak attacks, etc. Major disruption to the physical form results in...

    missing skills

In most of my campaigns, characters have generally skipped over these kinds of skills, as they weakened too many other areas. I could throw a bone at the odd person that went for character skills instead, and they'd feel meaningful.. but it wasn't great. Since last year, I've required...

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

An NPC with Wisdom 18 and a a toolkit worth what, 250g? (Honestly, I can't remember, but its not cheap) is hardly an improvement over a level 4 npc. WRT to the OP, I picked on the Action Points thing, but I don't think Keith is the first to mention it. Buggered if I can remember where I saw...

    Forced movement abilities

I'd be happy to let my players blow Fey Step for charge.. less movement, but not OA's against them.

    Forced movement abilities

Sure wouldn't cut it in my campaign. I've seen nothing to indicate that Fey Step removes momentum. On the other hand, I like the whole diving into the fiery pool of molten rock, to save your companion, then Fey-stepping.

    D&D 4E Using 4E style /encounter & /will abilities with 3.X

The reserve feats of Complete Mage and Complete Champion(?) were mostly built to this purpose, though I do like the customisation available through your method.

D&D 4E What will be your first 4E character?

I'm DM'ing. But My BBEG will be a Human Cleric/Warlock (Star Pact). He found evidence of the ancient old ones, and discovered runes and passages that enabled his mind to be found by them, and they conspire through him to re-take the world. Not that, you know, I'm that much of a Cthulu freak...

    Marked Advantage?

It would be some kind of additional fighter power.

    R. Thompson : D&D still a sim/gamist RPG

Tell that to George RR Martin. >.> I've not been exposed to this sort of discussion before.. in my campaigns, that I DM, I have a story, and background, hashed out, and major events planned on a timeline.. the Players can, if they follow the hooks, etc, change things, if they don't, then they...

    Change in WotC pricing structure?

WTF? Drew is leaving? Bummer :( Hey, Leaving drinks and meeting people sounds like a plan. :D I've preordered 2 gift sets for my group from Amazon. I'll try to pick up the adventures locally. I've been ordering a lot from Amazon lately. So. Much. Cheaper. Galaxy must have felt the...

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

I'm sorry, I'm not sure why tactical discussion encourages metagaming? An attack of opportunity is an abstraction, so is an area effect.. While I'll grant that some usage of some knowledge in such a situation (A character with no knowledge or experience with the fireball spell, knowing the...

    D&D 4E Flavor Powers in 4E?

You need to be a Dwarven Cleric. Then they are the same thing.

Why Not Just Call Them Stamina Points?

I've not paid massively close attention, so people might actually have said this.. but I certainly, even in 4th ed, don't think a PC walks away without a scratch. I think they'll have flesh wounds, strained muscles, and assorted other minor injuries. I don't think any edition has had the...
