    Vestiges and Timelines

I view 4e Fluff in the same vein as a "What if..." line from Marvel Comics. Interesting* to speculate about, but not to be taken seriously with the established Canon. * Well, interesting to somebody to be sure.

    My players are unstoppable

Throw out your MM. Or well at least retire it to the book shelf to thumb through from time to time... 3.5 is a bitch to run if you allow yourself to be restricted by the Designer's. Know your players, known their PCs. Design encounters around their PCs and usual tactics. Some on these boards...

Thinking up Signs of the Apocalypse in my Campaign

First off, nice work with the use of the Lady of Pain. This is the first plausible origin for her that I have seen that I've liked. The End is Nigh!! As long as the PCs get the big picture, there is no wrong way to do this. D&D is by default a highly magical world. So the Signs of the End would...

    Get Rid of Splatbooks Altogether

No thanks, really. *If* WotC manages to make 5e worth my time (on the fence so far), and then also manages to make *good* modules, I will still want my extra material (classes, races, feats, spells, whatever) to come in seperate books. And then I will be far less likely to buy a splat-book...

    Oriental adventures help

I would place Shaman, Shugenja and Wu Jen all as Tier 2.

D&D 5E (2014) Lolth in D&D Next and Setting Hopping

Lloth is/was RA Salvatore's spelling in the early Drizzt books. Reprints of those books have since reprinted the spelling as Lolth... in one of the books a character actually mentions it. In the reprint that part makes no sense as it has been edited to "Lolth" for both Lolth and Lloth (mentioned...

Gunslingers in Your World? It's More Likely Than You Think

I like firearms in my Fantasy. To me, if a setting relies solely on magic, magic feels less special.

    D&D 3.x 4E Races to 3.5E

<tangent>It always seemed strange to me when 4e advocates touted how much faster it was to roll an Attack v Reflex defense than to have targets roll a Reflex save. It seemed to me that, if my area effect encompasses five targets, it's faster to have five people roll a Save at the same time than...

Verisimilitude versus Rules Lite versus Rules Heavy

"why is verisimilitude important?" Maybe I am misunderstanding the word, but without verismilitude we might as well just be playing any number of board games. Verismilitude *is* all the fluff that matters. And when your Fluff and Mechanics can not play well together it makes for a strange...

    Sustaining a Technological Anacronism

I fail to grok the issue here. DM: Hey, this is the setting. Players: uh, thats not D&D. DM: Ok, so what are *you* running? In short tell your players to lighten up on the d-baggery and roll with it. Who knows, they might just have fun.

D&D 3.x Why the change in DR from 3.0 to 3.5

In 3.5 DR generally means nothing. In 3.0 it meant that the wizard had something to kill that the meleers might not be able to handle alone... much like how in 3.0 Golems (infinite SR) were almost a problem for casters (disregarding teh Conjuration boom spells).

Lords of Waterdeep, the newest D&D board game, releases today!‏

A friend of mine recently bought this... I'll post an opinion once we get around to playing it.

Pathfinder 1E World of Golarion going Lovecraft too much?

Its all subject to the guy behind the DM Screen anyways. In my friday PF game, the DM is a huge Lovecraft fan and the rest of us are also, if to a lesser degree. So in our PF game, there may be more Lovecraft influence than you might find at another table. This would not be reduced (in our...

All Wizard Party? How does it survive early levels?

Color Spray, Sleep... Battlefield Control + Summons. Try to avoid losing initiative. I think the spell is called Nerveskitter.

    Non-Asian Martial Artists?

Fighter + SWd20's martial arts feats + improved grapple should get you into the ballpark.

    D&D 5E (2014) Who's given up on D&D Next?

I have not given up on 5e. I don't know how one could give up on something that has yet to interest them. I am hopeful for 5e, but 4e left me skeptical of anything good coming from WotC again in an RPG format. I have my 2e, 3e and a mind that can house rule for both. As D&D goes, I'm good. 5e...

Monte on Life and Death (And Resurrection)

I am currently in a Pathfinder game where the DM does not believe in killing off PCs. Like at all. I really dislike this, as if there is no threat of death then it cheapens the game. At one point he even said we could "save the game"... I almost walked out... and I was living there at the...

Psion vs. magic and Enhance Spell (Epic Feat)

True that. And it should be noted somewhere on this thread that Wizards who focus that hard on Direct Damage have failed wizard-school. Let the non-mages do the damage, mages have better things to do.

Psion vs. magic and Enhance Spell (Epic Feat)

Well, if you can apply *all* your metafeats for 0 (AT + enough Epic Improved Metamagics), you do not really need more than 1 direct damage spell. For simplicity, I used Fireball. Need another energy type change it to Sonics or whatever else seems handy. Heck, you can easily have enough prepped...

Psion vs. magic and Enhance Spell (Epic Feat)

You are quite welcome, sir! In short, Psions make things go boom easier, but Wizards who focus on it do it far better (to the point of "borken"). When I make a boomstick, I go Psion. I can hit my mark without too much fuss, and avoid the temptation to go "too far" by doing it Arcane Thesis and...
