    Silly thought on Monks

Oriental Adventures - Shiba Protector PrC, level 1 dip. :D Something I have often taken for my Cleric and Druid characters in the past. Oh, and the occasional Monk. edit: you people need to stay the hell away from my PrCs! :p

D&D 3.x 3.5 alternate ways of handling favoured classes and multiclassing

I have ignored "Favored Classes" and the multiclassing penality since roughly 2001. Only "mundanes" really multiclass, and penalizing the boys who can't cast spells seemed pointless to me. For similiar reasons I have used "Fractional BAB and Saves" since UA came out...

    D&D Movie/TV Dungeons & Dragons 3 Movie Trailer

Record of Lodoss War (as mentioned above) was a great animated D&D-inspired flick. I remember RoLW marathons with my 2e group. The Gamers is a better "D&D Movie" than any/all of the actual D&D Movies.

D&D 3.x 3.5 character concept Fist of Raziel - overpowered?

It is a strong PrC. Overpowered is a very relative term. Yes it is stronger than some other PrCs. Perhaps even "many other PrCs"... but "many other PrCs" are kinda pathetic.

Why the Encounter Powers hate? (Maneuvers = Encounter)

I haven't (yet) read the entire thread, so if this has already been said... excuse me. Maneuvers (Bo9S) are not "encounter" abilities. Each of the three classes has a method of regaining their Maneuvers. Warblades can regain their entire suite in a round. Crusader's cycle through their...

    D&D 3.x Fixing 3.5

Welcome to ENWorld. That said, your "fixes" are pretty bonkers.

To Kill or Not to Kill (PCs): That is the Question...

Let the dice fall where they may! I am cool with an otherwise heroic PC dying to a lucky strike by "Joe Orc #3124". Crit Happens. I think this is a major reason about why I dig George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series so much. Any of the characters can drop at any time, he is not...

    'The Hulk'

Agreed. I'd drop the 4 fighter levels.

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

The Time of Troubles occurs between 1e and 2e actually.

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

If you meant "Take it back to 1e greybox" that is perhaps what you should have said. For clarity. I for one wouldn't mind an FR reboot like that. Though I don't need WotC to make it official for me to run in early FR, I have my old boxset still.

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

I have never let Canon control how I ran the Forgotten Realms. At the start of a new FR campaign I tell my players that this is "loosely based on the Forgotten Realms" to nip the whole "but according to Novel X this happens!" in the bud. I don't get the High Level NPC hate. Grey Hawk has the...

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

My condolences for what your FR DM put you through. My experiences with the Realms have been great. Once Planescape came out, all of our campaigns eventually went out into the Planes. Perhaps this is the reason that our high level characters never gave a damn about "competing with Elminster"...

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

Every aspect of any RPG is "up to your DM". If your DM happens to be an asshat, your game is in trouble. Using Elminster to make the PCs feel small = Asshat DM, regardless of what is and isn't written into the setting. I'll look up that greybox module later to see if "Elminster showing up to...

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

Ah, interesting. Your portrayal does not seem so one sided. I like the powerful yet senile mage archetype (aka, Fizban).

    Awfully Alarmed About Armour

3e lightly touched upon this, but only for certain monsters - not for armor. In 2e (and maybe 1e?) there was an optional Armor Type vs Weapon Type table. Slashing weapons beat leather, bludgeoning beat chain, piercing beat plate... or something like that. Back in the day we only tried using...

    Fragmentation Fears

WotC's goal with 5e blows my mind. In reality they are probably trying to unite the 3e and 4e gamers (despite what has been stated), as the diehard oldskool gamers were never their customers to begin with. Even just looking at those two systems... I personally (and I may be alone in this) do not...

    Awfully Alarmed About Armour

Armor does not make you harder to hit, if anything it slows you down and makes you easier to hit. What it does do is absorb some of the impact of a blow and/or turn a direct hit into a glancing blow. With the focus on flat math I believe that armor should provide some minor Defense boost and...
