What is your group’s roleplaying level?

Part of me wonders how much of a correlation there is between frequency of playing and amount of roleplaying that a group does. For example, I can see your session as something that might totally be taken in stride with a group that met weekly, and there would still be room for some feeling of...

DISCUSSION: Have you ever had to boot somebody from a game?

You're doing it wrong, then. When you properly play a DMPC. The game is really only about your PC. All you have to think about is the cool things your PC can do, and let the rest of the party tag along. When you get good at it, a DMPC will make your life easier, not harder. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) So Now We Are Paying for Early Access?

Maybe! It was an honest question on my part. I haven't bought the PDF and haven't had time to read UA yet.

D&D 5E (2014) So Now We Are Paying for Early Access?

The thing is, UA playtest material is free. This playtest material seems to be $20. So I guess the question is, will the mechanical content be made available for free?

    Monster ENCyclopedia: Scarecrow

I always loved that painting by Elmore, thanks for leading with it! Pretty amazing amount of research. I guess for a creature that evokes such a visceral response, it makes sense that there's so much background.

WotC D&D's Best Year Ever - But Hasbro's Goal Is For D&D e-Sports

Watching the full interview, I really don't think that he was alluding to D&D as an e-sport. The context was the MtG Arena app on mobile, and I interpreted his comments to be primarily related to MtG moving into an e-sport model. MtG is already very competitive, and I could certainly see this...

Eberron It Is? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

I just want to point out that the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron is apparently playtest material. If someone is looking for official crunch, this is not it. https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback/21226-wayfinders-guide-to-eberron-be-more-clear-about

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

While a revamp of another classic setting would be really nice, I have to admit that this looks really cool. Ravnica looks like a compelling and, more importantly, distinctly different setting to add to the stable of D&D settings. While I haven't been playing 5e, I might actually pick this up...

What’s The Greatest D&D Video Game?

I'm waiting for Morrus to chime in with "WTFP" ... ;) (kind of like RTFM)

Torn Asunder: For That Friend Who Won’t Shut Up About Dark Souls

This review would have been a lot more useful for me if the reviewer had told me what the product was before diving into ripping it to shreds. I gather that it has something to do with adding more detailed combat effects, but only by piecing together other details from the review.

    Gray elves in Greyhawk?

I have a new favorite phrase: "pop-up toaster villainy" :D

    Describing different adventure types

I've been considering my current campaign and how I anticipate it playing out. While nothing is set in stone at this point, and a lot depends on which plots the players pick up on, I expect that we will progress through a couple of dungeon crawls and gradually transition into an extra-planar...

    D&D 5E (2014) Would you marry a party member for +2 AC?

What a bizarre spell. If you were just married, why on Earth would you do anything where you care about your AC? Is it to dodge rice?

Monsters - older edition more challenging?

I think there are good and bad points about monster design in 5e. On the plus side, even basic chaff such as goblins and kobolds have unique abilities that really make them feel different, whereas in 1e a goblin was about the same as a kobold, an orc, a hobgoblin, etc. However, quite a few...

Graph Paper Romance: When D&D Characters Date

With all due respect, I think "Don't be a creep" completely undersells the point that he was making. There is nothing more inherently creepy about introducing romance in a game with 14 year olds than in a game with co-workers or a game with people at your local game store. You want everyone to...

    Stag party rpg

Do NOT click that link. I haven't inspected it, but it's a good policy to be suspicious of any link in a new poster's first post, especially a necro from 6 years ago.

    Death and Storytelling

I see D&D as an ensemble fantasy story where the story is greater than any one actor. Similar to Survivor, the ensemble will suffer losses and changes, but the story continues.

Pathfinder 2E Pirates & Gray Maidens: Archetypes in Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

I'm generally ok with a small investment being required to get certain class features, and a devotion feat sounds like one such investment. I'm especially ok with it if that initial investment is worthwhile on its own, so hopefully the devotion feats are independently worth it. If they are...

Pathfinder 2E Pirates & Gray Maidens: Archetypes in Pathfinder 2nd Edition!

That is pretty interesting. It sounds like you took the system to the extreme and found it broke. Intuitively, it seems like there is a reasonable middle ground that you might reach by, for example, restricting the space into skill feats vs. heritage feats vs. class feats etc. And then...
