    The stupidest movie ever!

Scream WAS bad, but surprisingly enough I liked Scream 2 much better, and then hated Scream 3. Go figure. Lost in Space had great potential but wasted it, saved only by great Sfx; Spawn had it's moments, still not great; Zardoz was WEIRD; Howard the Duck...don't remember it too well. Guess that...

    The stupidest movie ever!

I can't believe that any geek here wouldn't like Dark City. That was a wildy creative, imaginative movie. The worse movie ever, in my limited experience, would have to go to...dum ta da dum... PUMPKINHEAD 2: Blood Wings Bad bad bad bad bad. Which is too bad, because the demon from the first...

Call of Cthulhu d20 Preservation Society

I'm also running a Complete Masks of Nyarlathotep d20 CoC campaign. They are still in the London Chapter. I actually use a blend of 5th edition CoC, d20, Grim Tales, and d20 Modern. Our game is a little more action/hero oriented than default Cthulhu, but it's no less dangerous. For what it's...

    Can sieges withstand magical assault?

In all honesty, a high magic campaign with powerful spellcasters on both sides would so skew the reality of "siege" combat as we're historically used to it, there's really no comparison. But i'd sure as hell like to run the simulation sometime. Sounds like a blast, using every magical trick you...

Do we really need monster books?

I LOVE monster books. And yes, in a sense, i have "wasted" hundreds of dollars on them because i don't use them that much. But I collect them because the art and creativity is inspiring. Template books are great, and in the past i've made up monsters on my own just by mashing some stats...

    Can sieges withstand magical assault?

I think that spellcasters in such a situation would be the PRIME TARGET for anyone inside the walls. Arrows, catapults, trebuchets, scorpions, etc. would be trained on any spellcasting unit. Of course, the defensive tactics are endless. Invisible casters, illusory doubles, flying spellcasters...

    Can sieges withstand magical assault?

Well, lets look at this in terms of what is available magic-wise to default DnD characters, as useful in attacking a castle during a siege: Darkness, Protection from Arrows, Endure/Resist Energy and Elements (from burning oil), Hold Portal (might have a use), Grease, Obscuring Mist... Wait a...

So you're all sitting in a tavern and ...

The tavern setting, which i have used many a time, is a great central area to place strangers, comfort, intrigue, and alcohol all in one room. Additionally, when we were very young, a tavern full of bosomful wenches, cheap beer and hard booze was a foreign concept to little boys, and MORE than a...

So you're all sitting in a tavern and ...

Good idea. the DM tells all players to make Will Saves the moment they walk in the door, and subsequent saves every few rounds, and/or interactions. Failed saves mean they have succumbed to vampiric illusions to weaken their defenses, strength...

Okay, what is exactly *is* Grim Tales?

I use GT extensively with my CoC campaign. I can't say enough good things about the book, the guys at BadAxe Games really did a good job. Initially, i bought the book because i was so impressed with their early stuff, i figured a full-fledged hardback HAD to be good. Thankfully, i was right.

    Cthulhu and violence

I wholeheartedly agree. My guys are in the habit that violence will solve everything. Eventually they'll learn, probably the hard way, that it will only solve SOME things. And i checked out the posts on RPGnet. Seems like the argument is that default CoC convinces you not to make...

    Cthulhu and violence

I'm totally in agreement with the original poster. Violence and CoC go hand in hand. Me, I do run a pulp/high-adventure campaign. We've been playing roughly every other Sunday the Masks of Nyarlathotep and they're in the London scenario now. So far they have gunned down nearly 30 naked cultists...

    What's wrong with metamagic?

Metamagic is too costly in 3.5 ed. That's my biggest gripe with it. First off, you can't even try to use quicken or maximize at low level, and by the time you can afford it, you don't want to. Fortunately, there's lots of simple ways to houserule it. a) Midnight uses spell point, +1 to +4...

[Contest, Fiction] Elements of Magic - Lyceian Arcana: Folk Tales and Fantasy

Ditto. Fascinating theology system, Maerdwyn. I'd love to see new spell lists with every core spell broken down according to game setting. It could get pretty complicated depending on what kind of game the GM's running.

[Contest, Fiction] Elements of Magic - Lyceian Arcana: Folk Tales and Fantasy

Yowzers, Yair! I happen to believe a lot of that dreamer stuff in real-world terms. Cool. Sounds interesting to me, but probably tricky to roleplay.

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

I agree. Enworld is competition, and is indeed a "fix" of gaming that is not dependent on arriving in your mailbox. I recall many times in the past where i got a "lame" issue of Dragon, browsed through it in 5 minutes and had to wait a month for a hopefully better issue. I bought the Dragon...

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

I don't get Dungeon or Dragon anymore. I got Dragon in the 90's when TSR was around, and picked up the occasional Dungeon. With 3rd edition, Dragon seemed to be nothing but advertisements and prestige classes and monsters and feats and...and...well, stuff i've seen before and elsewhere. Plus, a...

    Player metagaming

I was reading in Grim Tales last night that you can't make an untrained Knowledge check for anything over a DC 10. I would say that all of the examples above would be DC 1-10, and you can take 10, and thus automatically know them. Knowing more intricate information would require the appropriate...

    Deflect Arrows feat DC

Yeah, that's kind of wanky. I hadn't thought about it. Maybe the monk can't deflect an attack over a certain BAB. Anything under that attack threshhold is automatically nullified.

    Combining Monotheism with D&D deities

Didn't the FR setting have an overgod named AO? I suppose not many citizens knew about him, but that could be your monotheistic god, with the hundreds of underling gods as saints, demons, and angels. I liked the Realms, but that was always my peeve, too many dieties. The logical interaction of...
