    The big deal about grapple

Where does it say that? All it says on the conditions list in KotS is that you're unable to move.

    You're Marked..how and what'sum'up?

Nope, it's part of the attack. You have to spend the action to attack, but you get the mark for free.

    KOTS: The After Action Report

This is pretty much what I said in one of the minion threads. Nice to see that you've come around. ;)

    Burst / blast?

Cover and concealment are NOT interchangeable in the real world. Thinking that they are has, in fact, gotten lots of people killed. To put it simply, cover is something between you and the enemy that will stop bullets, concealment is something between you and the enemy that blocks visibility...

A few comments from a playtester

Heh! Spending a feat and giving up a fighter power of equivalent level.

We played KotS and have a couple of rules questions! (HELP???)

Having the ally pour a healing potion down your throat.

    Problems with marks?

I think half of this problem is just the name that they chose. If they'd called it something like "Engaged" instead of marked, then it would be pretty clear that the reason the target takes a penalty to attack anyone else isn't some sort of mystical effect, it's because the fighter is trying to...

    The big deal about grapple

To avoid post-traumatic stress in people who played 3e? :D

    The big deal about grapple

The grab rules are on page 46 of the KotS book. They're presented in the context of the Zombie Grab ability, but I'd say this is pretty much what the grappling rules in 4e are going to look like.

A few comments from a playtester

Keep in mind that a multiclasser is already paying a feat and a power for every power he gets in the new class. I'd say that's already sub-par.

    Excerpt: Fallcrest

Actually, "whale-road" makes perfect sense if you think about the nautical definition of road as a short form of roadstead (an anchorage such as Hampton Roads or Lahaina Roads).

    Why are healing surges limited?

    Negative Con modifier, maybe?

    Why are healing surges limited?

Seems like that would lead to less use of daily powers at high levels, unless you give extra action points. A 20th level character has 4 daily powers. Matching this with action points would require seven encounters (one AP to start with, six encounters to gain 3 AP, plus one more encounter to...

    Sleep. Sleep! SLEEP!

The Rouse is no longer slowed. The way I read it, the target rolls a saving throw their first turn after being hit with Sleep. If they make that throw, they are no longer slowed (because it says save ends). If they fail that throw, they fall asleep.

    Why are healing surges limited?

If you're running KotS, as written, with 4 PCs, then you're not really running level appropriate encounters. A level appropriate encounter for a level 1 party is 100 XP per character. With four PCs, the first few encounters work out to: Kobold Brigands: 118.75 XP/char, slightly below a level...

    Why are healing surges limited?

Now, I think, we have reached the heart of the problem. The amount of healing surges, daily abilities, etc., seems calibrated to support 4 or 5 level appropriate encounters per day. One really tough fight, on the other hand, could easily take all of a character's daily powers and more than...

Another Grognard Reviews 4e based on KotS

I really think that 4e is much closer to Conan, for instance, than 3e was. Combat in 4e really seems to have a Conan-ish feel to me and the rules are a lot more modular, making it easier to get rid of the non-Conan bits. Doing a Conan campaign in 3e pretty much requires a separate version of...
