How WotC drove me to WoW

I love gnomes, but I don't really think they are being treated any more poorly than in third edition. Them being in the MM isn't that big of a deal to me, as any DM who isn't a gnome-hater is likely to allow them, while you probably wouldn't want to play one under the other kind of DM anyway...

Two-handed weapons -- nerfed, or am I missing something?

Also keep in mind that even basic attacks will do 2[W] on epic levels, so you're looking at a minimum of 2d8+1 versus 2d10 then. And of course, critical hits will do more damage with a greatsword than a longsword. I wouldn't discount the difference between prof 2 and 3 weapons. Hitting is quite...

I need a weird song I can take literally

Yeah, Beatles songs taken literally can yield interesting results. On a more serious note, though these have all been mentioned, "White Rabbit", "Stairway to Heaven", "All Along the Watchtower" and various songs by Tool come to mind immediately. Or by A Perfect Circle. I've always wanted to...

How WotC drove me to WoW

I am in complete agreement about the ugliness of the new green dragon. A shame I'll now never get a 3.x style green to round out my Icons :(. Some of the design decisions are dubious at best, sure. But it's not like there wasn't a whole lot of crap put out in previous editions either...

    Question on Warlord

Hitting is important. All of the warlord's attack rolls are based on Strength, so you'll typically want that as your highest attribute. Then choose either Charisma (if you want to be good at healing, granting saves, etc.) or Intelligence (focusing more on movement and bonuses to attack rolls)...

    Core Handbook Errors Discussion

Related to my complaint elsewhere about ranged utility powers for a melee type: It seems to me that utility powers shouldn't provoke opportunity attacks. Unfortunately, the PHB seems to use "ranged and area attacks" and "ranged and area powers" interchangeably in this context, when it really...

I love Star Wars Saga- will I like 4e?

Overall, it's probably simpler but you'll have to relearn a couple of things (right now, a lot of confusion seems to come from people assuming things based on their experience with 3.5). There seem to be plenty of flaws (and if I was on the fence, I'd consider staying there until a print run...

    Warlord - I don't get it

From my, admittedly very limited, experience, not too well, especially if only one of the other two is a melee type. Still loving the class though, and looking forward to the bard. cheers

    Forbes Article about leaked PDFS

To me as well. That would've made more sense under the slipups passage. cheers

    4E Art Direction--Yay or Nay

This. I am seeing quite a few misses, but it's not like third edition books weren't full of those either. Overall, I'm slightly underwhelmed, but there are some pretty nice pictures as well. One thing I really like about the art direction is the move away from having almost exclusively single...

3 players: scale down or double up?

Dancing around a solo monster with a nasty area recharge attack (and a DM who tends to roll too well) in order to maybe set up a flanking position later did not seem prudent at the time. In hindsight of course, we would've gone about the fight differently from the start. All I'm saying is that...

3 players: scale down or double up?

The warlord needs an ally to be engaging the same enemy in melee for all his at-will abilities, and that simply wasn't possible or at least impractical a lot of the time, due to terrain, enemies marking PCs or standing in the way, and what have you. Some of these situations may be avoided with...

3 players: scale down or double up?

Our party consists of 3 PCs (warlord, fighter, wizard). It works, but the missing striker is quite apparent and the warlord would like there to be more than one other melee type. A lot of the time so far he could as well have just made melee basic attacks, with the flow of battle not allowing...

    Rate 4e!

It's pretty much exactly what I thought. I like the new rules in general, the aesthetics are rather hit and miss, and the editing leaves much to be desired. cheers

    Multiclassing woes

Of course, "all class combinations work, always" was pure marketing speak, we knew that. But if you can take warlock paragon paths and fully half of their special abilities simply won't function, something is messed up. The life-stealer, which is about collecting life sparks can only do that...

    Multiclassing woes

I may be wrong, but multiclassing seems to me to be the redheaded stepchild of 4E. Sure, unlike in third edition it probably won't break anything, but most of the time while others are getting new things that mesh well with their role, you are spending resources to replace yours with things that...

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

Yes, it's an interrupt that would typically occur on an ally's turn, when the enemies are able to make opportunity attacks. The effect though not negligible is relatively small. Saul the Soft-Spoken above gains the same with an at-will ability, and with a level 1 daily, the warlord can grant...

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

Yes, of course the odds of it happening are better*. The odds of provoking opportunity attacks and using an encounter power to give that ally something like 3 +/- 1 temporary hit points (if you are the charisma-based kind). I just don't get why when the warlord is expected to be in melee, they...

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

I get the feeling a warlord (who pretty much has to stand at the front-line to do his thing) utility power tied to the same condition, granting whoever scored the critical hit a pittance of temporary hit points and in the process provoking an OA, isn't exactly up to par either. cheers
