Just played my 7th 4E game

The latest update changed when you can apply the extra damage from warlock's curse or hunter's quarry. You now have to hit with an attack, as opposed to dealing damage. It's not huge but it is noticeable, and moreso for the warlock, who usually only gets one chance to hit per round. cheers

Just played my 7th 4E game

A few observations after I don't quite know how many sessions in three campaigns: You'll want power cards (not necessarily mine, but you'll want some). Due to printer troubles, I didn't have cards ready for the first session with my 18th level wizard, and things would definitely have gone...

    When [W]eapon keyword exploits don't use a [W]?

I wouldn't read too much into the flavor text. If you do want to explain it, you could just say the 'solid blow' that enables the secondary attack is with the weapon, which is why you'd get to add its modifiers. D&D combat is a very abstract matter, and nowhere in the actual rules of the power...

LFR News or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Play a Drow, Genasi, or Swordmage.

Just yesterday I was contemplating a dual-scimitar ranger for a near-epic FR campaign, and then it struck me that there aren't a whole lot of fitting miniatures... but there are two variants of Drizz't. I was tired enough to consider the possibility for a second or two, before going back to...

    Dilettante & Implements

Because it will only add to the fun of the half-elf character's player, and is unlikely to break anything. If you don't want the player to benefit from an implement's special abilities, that is easy enough to rule out. Other racial abilities stay relevant, so I don't see any reason for an...

    Dilettante & Implements

If I'm not mistaken, as written, you wouldn't get to use an implement for the dilettante power, unless you also took the appropriate multiclass feat. However, I'd certainly allow it and I suspect most other DMs would as well. cheers

Sunless Citidel vs. Keep on the Shadowfell

I was a player in both (the same DM and almost the same group), and I'd have to give the edge to the Sunless Citadel, for the reasons that have already been mentioned, and maybe a hint of nostalgia. cheers

What PC races are in your 4E group!

Not all of the campaigns have gotten off the ground yet, so things might still be subject to change. So far it looks like the halfling and half-elf are missing from the PHB line-up (though both were in consideration a few times and one of the eladrins used to be a half-elf). As far as non-PHB...

    Six hour combats

Combat sure can take a good long time. In our case it helped that we gravitated towards characters that were relatively simple to play (like the shapeshift druid variant), and that the groups were usually small. I can see how the fight against the BBEG in Shackled City could take a while...

    Forked Thread: KotShadowfell wierdness/plotholes.

As a player, I found the whole deal a bit annoying. One thing that might have helped would have been to describe the "infinite skeletons" as getting back up again instead. This passage makes little enough sense, so what I really didn't need here was a fight straight out of a video game. cheers

    Wizards and their keywords

If you include the spells from Dragon #364, the psychic keyword actually comes up fairly often (9 times, I believe, or 10 times if you also count the Blood Mage's Destructive Salutation), making Psyhic Lock a more worthwhile investion. cheers

Are ranged rangers better than melee ones?

Custserv has ruled similarly I belive, but in my personal opinion, that way lies madness (shuriken would then be the only "ranged" thrown weapons). Also: Would make more sense if you consider thrown weapons to be ranged weapons, when thrown. cheers

    Playing a Warlord sucks!!

I love the warlord concept, but in practice I too sometimes find he relies on allies just a little too much, especially since our groups are usually on the small side (3 players). In the campaign I play a warlord in, we've since added two more characters. While I'd generally prefer just playing...

    Least Favorite (Core) D&D Race

If this is about PC races, I agree that drow shouldn't even be on the list. Other than that, the new tiefling is pretty bad and I have no desire to see half-orcs again. cheers

Which came first; the Story or the Stats?

Both. Usually I just want to play a certain character concept, and at other times, I want to try out some piece of crunch. In either case, concept and build continually influence each other as they develop. cheers

The most damaging 4th edition attack by Class?

Yeah, it's a crazy ruling. I'm sure we'll see plenty more of those, but this one actually made me laugh. cheers

Forked Thread: What Do Want To See in Dragon?

I voted "classes". This does not mean that I want a new class every month, but rather that if there's a chance I won't have to wait a year or two for classes I would've liked at release, I'd be all for that. cheers

"You realize, of course, this mean war."

I hate how in Tetris all the bricks are essentially the same. Stupid, steamlined crap with them all being made up of the same four blocks. But the oppressive fluff really kills it for me. cheers

The most damaging 4th edition attack by Class?

Lol wut? I like going places with the rules (gonna play an invisidin soon), and making the best of what I got (hence why spiked chains were banned under one DM), but I'll not have my infernal warlock/blood mage touch this nugget of pure comedy gold. Got a link or something? cheers

Suggest a fix for Shadow Wasp Strike (Ranger Attack 3)

So, what about Steel Serpent Strike and Dance of Steel? Has that been errata'd, or is it still a case of the higher level power doing less than the lower level power, in addition to being more limited in the choice of weaponry? cheers
