D&D 5E (2024) Any ideas for Avatar of Bane? Lvl 10 PCs?

https://a5e.tools/node/1613 Could use A5e's CR 10 "Forgotten God" as a template to build up harder? Or just farm it for abilities like Divine Wrath which, honestly, to me is amazing for an Avatar option.

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

Ohhh... but that doesn't really help the Ranger with their animal companion. It just makes a feat so anyone can have an animal companion in a loosely defined manner. (Very loosely if they picked plant! ;) )

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

Neither of them have come out. Martial Artistry will be on Backerkit on the 15th. I know what is in it 'cause I wrote it. Pets and Sidekicks is "Coming Soon" on Kickstarter, but mentions "Heroic Levels" for companions and sidekicks. Both are designed to be 5e compatible for 2014 and 2024. Also...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

I do kinda like the simplicity of it... but. 1) At level 1 (and all following levels) there's a chance the companion has more HP than the PC, doubling their effective hit points as a 'total character'. 2) Plant companions are significantly less subject to spellcasting affecting them. 3) The...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

Allow me to gesture, broadly, toward A5e. Where all the Martial Classes get combat maneuvers and exertion equal to double their proficiency bonus per short rest to spend to power their maneuvers. It's so much nicer than 2014 and 2024 to be a martial character in A5e. And it's not like you're...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

The upcoming "Pets and Sidekicks" book looks like it has a leveling path for companion animals in the same way Martial Artistry has full companion classes for the Sentinel's companion... So I'm -super- excited to see how they did it, myself!

D&D 5E (2024) Martials: damage scaling like cantrips?

So... yeah. Martial Damage is scaled to a similar degree as Cantrips, though it ultimately favors martials. Lemme 'splain. Casters get one attack roll for up to 4d10 damage. If they use a Wand of the Warmage it has a better chance of landing and gains a +3 to damage. This means on a given...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow flighted Player characters to carry other Player characters?

If the flying character is doing it under their own power (Wings) then they can carry another creature based on carrying capacity. The carrier cannot do combat because their hands are occupied unless they're casting V only spells. If they're under the Fly spell, no. The spell is what's lifting...

    D&D 5E (2024) IK Gunfighter in D&D 2024

Oh! It'll be well and truly released by then!

D&D 5E (2014) Couple new Ideas, gauging interest

Combat Synergies. They're kinda like that.

D&D 5E (2014) Couple new Ideas, gauging interest

My big thought on Chorus spells was simple: You don't have to align your turn between casters, you just have to decide to be a willing spell component. You're just like "Yup. I'm in" and it works. Same with partner.

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

Eh... As a designer, I'm of two minds about it. 1) Save or Suck spells have to exist in order to fulfill the mandates of the fantasy that inspires D&D and other TTRPGs. Whether it's charming, domination, paralysis, dancing, or whatever else, there's just tons of precedent for stuff that takes...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Yeah, but if you don't know or actually care about the ranks or pay attention beyond the most rudimentary understanding of apprenticeship and guild structures, Masters are right under Grandmasters! Also... Um. >.> Lanasa said he achieved the rank "Just Under" George Washington. And since the...

    D&D 5E (2014) CleverNickName's Laboratory: Let's Make Cantrip Magic Items

Gravedigger's Friend improvised weapon (shovel), uncommon, (requires attunement) While attuned to this old and well worn shovel you may use the Mold Earth and Shillelagh cantrips, though the Shillelagh cantrip can only target the shovel. When used in this way the Gravedigger's Friend is treated...

Level Up (A5E) Announcing A5Evening: An All Party Round Up (an A5e Youtube 'news' show)

One thing of great importance to note: I didn't have a hand in designing A5e. I wasn't part of the team because I hadn't taken the plunge on writing professionally. The team that -did- create it, however, remains an absolutely fantastic group of people who did something amazing. And many do...

Level Up (A5E) Announcing A5Evening: An All Party Round Up (an A5e Youtube 'news' show)

Between the Warcaster and the Swordmage you're gonna have some interesting gishing options. Personally I think the Swordmage is a better example of the traditional gish, where the Warcaster is a solid choice for trying something -different- in your gishing. Particularly with their ability at...
