    He-Man d20?

Probably the wrong forum for this.. I'd assume we'd work with the new incarnation of the cartoon, where people actually fight each other? He-Man/Grayskull, Skeletor, King Hiss, Zodak, and the Sorceress would be the epic characters, with Evilyn (or is it actually spelled Evil-Lyn?) and...

    Planar Ally/Binding spells?

Um... I guess you cast Charm Monster on it and have it follow you around like some sort of highly corrosive puppy? Or herd to some particular spot that you want it to guard? Summoning creatures that you can't communicate with is a waste of time and effort if you want the thing to be more than...

    Wizard or Sorcerer?

Wizard. I'd rather play a wizard, and I'd rather have a wizard around than a sorcerer.

    Cleric or Druid?

Personally, I'd play a druid. But a cleric would probably be more useful, so I voted cleric.

    Uber Conjurer?

Greater Planar Binding (or Gate). A evil uber-summoner that doesn't have some high-powered demonic creature bound into his service isn't really fitting the bill. The thoroughly upgraded 3.5 Pit Fiend and Balor make for very nasty tanks. Hell, he might have a small court of beings that he's...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Good 8th Level Wizard Spells?

Don't dismiss Horrid Wilting. It got nerfed a bit in 3.5, but its main strength is that works on just about anything living. 20 or 30 point energy resistances aren't worth crap against Horrid Wilting. Otto's Dance leaves the victim completely vulnerable, unlike Maze (also, creatures that are...

How do YOU play a rogue?

A rogue with a few fighter levels is a very simple way to make a ninja. A rogue can easily be an affiliate with a church, though. Not any odder than a fighter or wizard having church ties.. Or he could've gone a completely different tack and been a dissenting voice in the party.

    Familiars: are they worth it?

Familiars are little more than an extra pair of eyes, unless you got Improved Familiar, in which case your familiar might actually do somethingelse useful. The way I've seen familiars done is one of three ways: 1) Just don't bother with them (which I did with my own high level wizard) 2) The...

How do YOU play a bard?

I tried playing a bard once, when 3E just came out. Took her up to 18th level, though I multi-classed a bit as experimentation. I can safely say that I'll never do it again. 1) Multiclassing into another spell casting class is a bad idea. 2) Taking a prestige class that doesn't continue your...

Paladin of Free "to do what?" dom.

If the PrC doesn't specify a particular alignment, then the Paladin of Freedom is perfectly capable of taking it.

    Sword-chucks/Vigoorian Flail

While 8-bit Theater has had the Sword-chucks as a running joke for quite some time, Ninja Gaiden went ahead and included a weapon that basically is sword-chucks. It's a pair of sickles attached with a chain, and Ryu can somehow use the things like nunchucks without shredding himself. Any ideas...

    Baatorian Green Steel

Officially detailed in 3.5? I don't think it has been. I've house-ruled that green steel weapons do damage as though they were a size larger on the scale, but that's just a house rule.

    Curse that charisma!

I expect assassins to have better sense than to demand directions from the captain of the guard. Assuming that the captain is loyal and would actually do his job, an assassin intimidating the guard captain to buy some time is quite reasonable. An assassin trying to intimidate the captain...

    "weak spot" on a dragon

Characters seem to hit much, much harder nowadays.. I have no real idea what timeframe #94 would be written in; is it first edition?

    Barbed Gifts, or Dirty Politics

Maybe a Red Dragon has killed the previous owner of that land, and has claimed it as his own. That's a pretty serious (and potentially fatal) crisis right there, and as the new lord of that land Mr. Goody-Goody needs to go get rid of it. Perhaps it's a border province with a rather greedy and...

    Curse that charisma!

I never said that the captain can't be intimidated, but if the player thinks that an Intimidate check should force the captain to betray his master, then the player is grossly overestimating what Intimidate can do. Intimidate scares people; it's not a freaking Dominate spell.

    Need more Sage Advice

He can claw/claw/bite or monk attacks/bite, IIRC. In either case, the bite has a -5 modifier for being a secondary attack and has 1/2 str as the damage modifier. The bite attack attack might suffer the additional -2 modifier if Flurry is used, but I'm not sure. As low levels he'll be better...

    Curse that charisma!

If the assassin in question outclasses the castle guards that badly, he should be able to walk in, kill Master Chen, and leave without ever being noticed. I am being a bit harsh on the assassin, but if he's already been noticed by a generic guard, had to kill one of them and has been discovered...

    Curse that charisma!

As for the assassin example, a reasonable resolution might be something like (keep in mind that if the assassin has run into the freaking captain of the guard, then he's seriously compromised his mission): Failure: The captain raises the alarm and engages the assassin in personal combat, either...

    Curse that charisma!

True enough. The Cha penalty is supposed to reflect those two races being hard to get along with; it isn't supposed to reflect the inherently beefiest PC races being pushovers. I think a Cha penalty indicating "offensive" instead of "forgettable" works fine. Skills ranks are far more...
