It is that the PHB version of the Cover rules basically make it so for melee the Attacker chooses the corner that is the best for him. The DMG version gives that right to the Defender in terms of which corner to corner line determines if there is cover.

I don't know that I have more to add to the comparison than what has been said. I will say I think 4e would be easier on a casual group of players as there our currently only 3 books for the DM to buy and 1 for the players so the ramping up in terms of cash and information load is easier.

I will echo that my lovely wife moved from Diablo II to EQ to WoW and picked up DnD along the way once we started going out.

I should have been more clear, I meant her actual book but her column is enjoyed to. I think if you do not have the lexicon of geek background info (fantasy novels, movies etc) having a viewpoint such as this helps explain some of what goes on.

IMC we are using the Alea magnetic markers and they have been great so far. The big set has enough colors for each characters powers to be different and I still have enough left over for all of the badguy effects.
