    D&D General 2024 Monster Creation

This is my guess, too. Monster design has arguably been the aspect of 5E that has changed the most. We've went from having monsters with almost no bonus actions or other tricks to having a good bit, legendary actions got modified to potentially include mythic actions before then switching to it...

Scions of Elemental Evil Released on D&D Beyond

Now that I've seen all the statblocks I'm feeling better overall. I especially like the Fire Elemental's new aura and the Pirate Captain's use of Vex and their one-turn Charm.

Scions of Elemental Evil Released on D&D Beyond

Baldur's Gate 3 notedly added a lot of ranged attacks to creatures that don't have them in the official 5E rules, like giving intellect devourers a ranged psychic damage attack.

Scions of Elemental Evil Released on D&D Beyond

I'm curious about the "why" for replacing Infernal Charm and the Golem's Slow with spells. The best I can think is so that they can be unambiguously affected by Counterspell by RAW. I'm glad to see DR and DI to nonmagical weapons gone, but the Ogre just becoming an even bigger bag of HP without...

    D&D 5E (2024) Flanking no more in D&D 2024?

I started running 5E with flanking rules and thought I'd miss them if I stopped using them, but really it didn't add much. It's too easy to get into flanking position due to the opportunity attack rules. It does at least still have the benefit of making it more likely that a flanked enemy gets...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Artificer

It would be nice if Artificers got some new signature spells that fit the flavor of the class better.

D&D 5E (2014) How to Run Combats in a Cavernous Dungeon Without Alerting All NPC's?

RAW very few things generate noise that travels. The noise from Thunderwave, a spell that creates a blast of thunder powerful enough that it can knock creatures away, is stated to only be audible up to 300 feet away. The Thunderclap cantrip has an even shorter range at 100 feet.

D&D 5E (2024) Pack Tactics Diacusses New DMG, Includes New Details

I'm noticing that the video is showing enspelled armor can be used by noncasters, but that enspelled weapons requirement attunement by a spellcaster.

D&D 5E (2014) What Do You Think is the Best 5E Book for DMs So Far?

5E has been around for a decade. Of the booms published in this edition, which ones resonate the most with you as a DM? Personally, despite not being a big Ravenloft fan I have to say that it seems to me like the best book overall. You've got dark gifts to tempt players, guidelines for creating...

    D&D 5E (2024) So how do you remove disease in 5E 2024?

The DM's Toolbox preview video for the DMG 2024 mentions Sight Rot and other diseases, but it sounds like they have been included with curses. Perhaps they are now explicitly magical in nature and include information on how to cure them in their own descriptions.

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

That's pretty much what 4E did. Every character had a basic attack with no riders and then a number of At-Wills. For example, a Fighter had their basic attack that just did the weapon's damage and could choose discrete options like Knockdown Assault to knock prone or Cleave to hit a primary...

The Legend of Vox Machina Free on YouTube for Limited Time

I'll say I enjoyed both of the first two seasons well enough, and the second thankfully tones down (but doesn't eliminate entirely) the more crass jokes.

D&D General Interview with D&D VP Jess Lanzillo on Comicbook.com

My key takeaways: Mentions a desire to revisiting previous locations and giving them "a new coat of paint" They're apparently considering more smaller and niche releases in-between the larger books Dig at Gary Gygax: "We're not Gary Gygax. We're not going to tell you the right way to play."...

D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

If there was a meaningful mechanical distinction between bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing I'd be more concerned, but the way the majority of attacks work the three damage types could be consolidated to physical damage or something.

D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

I am wondering how the designer of the ancient green dragon expects the fight to go. As written, it can potentially target creatures with its at-will charm monster spell 8 to 10 times per round. Does the dragon just pacify everyone and then pick them off one by one after that?

Spelljammer Good way to do a pirate game in spelljammer?

    1. It would probably be worth making the setting large enough that it would take days to cross from world to world, if only to allow for downtime between locations. 2. A good initial starting location would probably be a single wildspace system, with potential to expand to others and the Astral...

D&D 5E (2024) Players Handbook 2024 Art and Design video from WotC

I'm very curious about the species image for the orcs. The others all look very standard with dwarves smithing, elves being fancy, and gnomes making a construct, but then we have orcs out on the frontier. I'm interested to see if the PHB 2024 orc is more divergent in lore than I previously expected.

D&D 5E (2014) Magical Metals and Alloys: We Need More

A 2E Dragon Magazine article included a silver metal called mindex which was used for crafting ships capable of being propelled in the Astral Plane by psionics. I've decided to say that the silver swords of the githyanki are composed of this metal.

D&D 5E (2014) Collecting the various "effects" in the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 codified a lot of conditions, which can be found on a fan wiki. The only one that comes to mind immediately is that the name Bone Chilled is used to refer to the inability to heal inflicted by Chill Touch and other effects.

D&D 5E (2014) Can Sending Be Used to Speak with the Soul of a Dead Character?

I just spent several hours of my real life reading and compiling details about D&D characters' afterlife. What Happens When You Die (In D&D [According to Some Sources]) Soon After Death Normally, the soul stays with the body for 1 hour (as evidenced by the nabassu's Devour Soul ability; 5E)...
