D&D 4E Rise of the Runelords 4e Conversion

I kept that file. You can get it from our meetup files. http://www.meetup.com/NYC-DND/messages/boards/thread/18176042

Converting T1 - Village of Hommlet to D&D Next

I tried to create a Bestiary so someone could simply run Village of Hommlet as is, but with new stats. Here it is using the 10/8/12 playtest packet as the target. I added 20 hit points to each encounter, since the D&D Next players do that much more damage than their OD&D or AD&D counterparts. I...

    D&D 4E 4e-style Roguelikes

There's also "Dungeons of Dredmore" that sells on Steam. Dungeons of Dredmor I couldn't take the humor.

    D&D 4E 4e-style Roguelikes

There's a game called "Avernum" out for PC, Mac and Ipad! that is very roguelike. It is quite a good game. I love 4E and I love Avernum. There is no game that can completely capture 4E, but Avernum is pretty tactical. For casters it uses spell points. For fighters, they get maneuvers, only...

    Tactical Encounter Problems

Hey this is a fantastic post. Lots of great ideas. I approached this same subject with a "clinical" mindset. If you take apart the "Dungeon Delve" book the designers went through the entire gamut of how do you make combat more interesting than just: stand next to monster, kill monster. I tried...

    D&D 4th edition conversions of AD&D

It's a common reply: "Oh it's easy you can do it yourself". If it's so easy why isn't there a huge repository of converted adventures? I'm guessing it's WotC ultra-restrictive copyright issues, which is costing us a lot of fun. I think if you write your conversion as just a list of Monster...

What old modules would you like to see converted/reimagined??

A Red Hand of Doom 4E conversion was posted on these very ENWorld forums. It was an extremely well done conversion that really captured the custom Hobgoblin leaders and Dragonborn abominations while most of the other monsters were pulled unaltered from 4E sources. I started a collection of all...

    I6: Ravenloft

I converted the original Ravenloft (I think it's better than the "Expedition") to 4E. I posted it on the NYC D&D Meetup site along with other 4E Conversions I have been collecting from across the web. 4E Conversions of previous D&D edition adventures. - The NYC Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group...

Death's Reach - entering Epic play

I played Death's Reach, Kingdom of the Ghouls, and then DM'd Prince of Undeath. I have bad news, Epic is broken. As a paladin I stunned my way through elite after elite. The designers gave way too many "control" powers to non-controllers. Paladins stun, rogues stun, rangers immobilize...

    Making Engaging Challenging Encounters

I put together this list of things to make encounters more interesting that just fight 5 monsters. There was an old forum post here on avoiding "the grind". I hope this is a good start to fixing that. How do you encourage movement into a room instead of a fight in a doorway? I put them all...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

In the Essentials books they include a lot of stun and dominate powers for the wizard, but.. they almost all come with the trigger: if the target takes damage, the stun immediately ends. That could be a very nice mechanic to add to all stuns. It would stop the beat-down effect, while still...

Try at Updated Orcus, w new Black Dragon solo rules

So I want to try at updating Orcus by using the new black dragon solo released in the Dungeons & Dragons comic book #1 as the guideline. I read AngryDM's guide, but he's designing encounters not designing monsters. I want to do as little as possible. Change Orcus's powers as little as...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

How about you give out the option to very easily take a feat so players who hate stun can completely ignore it 50% of the time. That's what WotC solution seems to be FAQ for Player's Essentials: Heroes of the Fallen Lands!. The feat does the same thing as a level 14 item "Circlet of Arkhosia"...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

No matter what, they tied a solo's threat to it's standard action. I'm starting to also come to the conclusion that for solos you have to downgrade Stunned to Dazed+Immobilized like one of the developers said he does. I guess solos are that powerful, NO ONE STUNS A DRAGON, RAAAWRR!

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

One problem is they never gave very good guidelines on creating solos. Let's assume in a normal encounter monsters die one per round. Encounter lasts 5 rounds. At the start players are taking full 5 monsters worth of damage, but at the end are only taking 1 monster's worth of damage. That...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

Sorry for the multi-post, but I am immensely interested in this subject. If you look at the designers' edit to Legion's Hold, they changed stun into Dazed and Immobilized. Maybe using this logic, but still making stun brutal Stunned: - No Standard Action - Dazed - Immobilized No...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

In a game like D&D where you do sit around for long periods of time watching other people take their turns (The main complaint of my fiance is that the game is so slow and you don't get to do much) Stunned is a pretty bad thing. I guess it's directly in proportion to how the rest of the table...

Taking Unfun out of Dazed and Stunned Conditions

Petrify and Sleep are obviously worse than Stun, but they are nowhere near as common. The main problem is that stun is so common. There are level 1 player powers that stun(save ends)! As a stunned player sitting out and able to do nothing sucks. As a DM, it's just as unfun to watch your BBEG...
