D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

A lot of really interesting things here. A few initial observations: 1. This is going to be a very popular 1- and 2-level dip. 1 level will give med armor and shields and a skill -- super for Rogues. 2. The flavour text feels a little off to me -- items "vanish" (rather than stop working) or...

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Fitz's Folly

Miss Imogen casts her gze around, unsure in the hasty din of battle where everyone might be.

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

The wind blows slowly dislodging a lock of Tommi's hair, which tumbles into his eyes before he brushes it away with his fingers once again. He has been lost in thought unaware if any time has passed.

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Is there a version of muscular neutrality that is actively rejecting our world as a battleground for distant cosmic forces? The gods have their fights, and therse get played out through their pawns (believer/adherents), and it takes heroism to say that they ought not take place here. Neutrality...

D&D General The History of Alignment: Why D&D Has the Nine-Point Alignment System 4 UR Memes

Thanks for a great read. The debts to Moorcock always felt explicit (stronger than Zelazny) when I started playing Basic in the lat 70s, and I think the cool-factor is a big part of its success. Elric as a servant of Arioch, lord of Chaos was rock'n'roll, and the fact that he was a wasted king...

    D&D General Cleric/Rogue

So these are my 2 favourite classes as well, so I love this question. The first thing to ask is what is it you want out of each class? Cleric -- on level gives you armor (which means the rogue side can focus on STR), and it gives you some really useful spells, and, depending how long you...

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Tommi watches as the blood goes everywhere, and he wonders about the motivations of the Pit Fiend. His hands are in his pockets; he bag slung over one shoulder. He's ready to go, wherever the group is heading, but he does not make a suggestion. He's tired and sulky: his idea had been right, in...

AtG Howling Crag (5e PBP) RG

The Colonel Air Genasi Celestial Warlock Acolyte 11 [once I was a cleric] HP 69 (11d8). Move 35. Darkvision 60. AC 17 Athletics +5, Insight +6, Persuasion +8, Religion +2. Spark: a Sprite familiar (my reaction to halve damage); DC 16 Heart Sight; typically invisible.; typically +9 THP After...

D&D 5E (2024) What 2024 Subclasses and Classes are you most excited about?

I'm excited by the buffed illusionist builds possible: straight illusionist, Arcane trickster, and (esp.) trickery cleric all are on my horizon.

D&D General Alternate Stats for Initiative [+]

This is a great post, and I like the openness to different ideas. While I agree with the premise (DEX is over-used and too important), I am not sure initiative is the place most in need of correction. Given that DEX is combining agility, coordination, reflexes, and balance already, this seems...

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Fitz's Folly

Miss Imogen moves to where she has a clear shot of the Hag on the upper level, and fires two shots. Both miss. Should change her name to "Hit Imogen", but that would sound like advice to the DM. Move to X26. Attack with 2 arrows: 1d20+4=13 MISS. 1d20+4=9 MISS. Weed sees what Qawasha has...

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

Both Air Genasi and Tempest Cleric haven't been updated... I know I could use the old species and subclasses, but that doesn't feel like I'm embracing the spirit of '24. I expect the block is with me. No trouble, just reconciliation.

Update: this is absolutely the worst build imaginable. So many otiose features.

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

(Also, @FitzTheRuke : when we made characters we were given a free feat. I presume that was in anticipation of 2024, and we are not getting an extra free feat now, but please correct me if I'm wrong).

    Not at this time.
  17. Kobold Stew

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

I am happy to continue playing the Colonel, but there are two major obstacles to updating him to 2024: he is (1) an Air Genasi (2) Tempest Cleric. Both species and subclass haven't been updated, and so while could use the old ones, that doesn't fully enter the spirit of updating to 2024...

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

I've been quiet and thinking about this, but it's the end of a busy week and I'm ready to engage. :P Perfect Yes but see my next post. Deal. I think a new thread would be appropriate.

"That is a good choice," says Tommi simply. If invited to help break the rod, he will do so.
