Bard & Sorcerer - what should they be?

What do Sorcerers offer now in 4E that isn't really covered by either Warlocks or Wizards currently? Bards might offer a little bit more than fluff vs the Warlord, depending on how it was handled.

Observations of a DM turned player

I have been interested in running games for a while, but several aspects of 3E just turned me off entirely from ever doing so. With 4E, I'm very much interested in running games. I have found DM'ing so far to be a lot of fun, and far easier and more intuitive than 3E was. I also feel like my...

I cast a blast spell, you say: how high?

There are a few reasonable DM rulings. A DM just needs to pick one and stick with it. I think the most reasonable way (or at least the way I prefer) is to treat 3D exactly like analogies of 2D. Treat the Blast 3 as 3x3x3. Allow your blast to start from up to 1 square above your head (so your...

Can you do a "diamond" shaped blast?

So what's that saying? "Make something foolproof, and someone will build a better fool?" Sometimes a plain simple description complete with illustration just isn't enough. The thing that baffles me is that there doesn't even seem to be anyone who seems to be unclear as to what the rules as...

Do all wizards have all cantrips at 1st level?

I think a lot of people have been confused about Magic Missile since the Penny Arcade Podcast mistakenly stated that it could be used to do an OA.

Article on Wired.com poking fun at gamers

The bit about infinite Oregano was really funny. I couldn't help but think of bags of puppies, or caged kobolds being carried around to activate powers.

    Sacrificial Bunnies (Warlock curse question)

This is funny. He suggests that because players are not allowed to trigger their special abilities off creatures that arent' credible threats, that 4E is like WoW? As I recall, lots abilities in WoW *do* trigger off non-credible threats, because the game doesn't have a DM in the game to use...

4E Combat isn't like WoW, it's like Street Fighter.

Apparently it wasn't obvious that I made my original post in jest. I suppose that what I wanted to express that you can break down various game elements and draw comparisons to many number of games. I don't think 4E is like Streetfighter, but I don't think it's really that much like WoW...

    Multiclassing - please explain

This is the part I'm not totally clear on... Does this mean that if you select to multiclass instead of doing the Paragon path, that you are forever stuck with the 7th, 10th, and 19th level spells only? Can you not trade up later? Honestly, doing paragon multiclassing and only ever getting a...

Dragonshield Tactics ( again, I know)

I don't know about RAW, but someone from WOTC did post on these forums a few weeks ago to clarify specifically that the player could continue moving, if they had movement left.

4E Combat isn't like WoW, it's like Street Fighter.

I think people have got it backwards. Fighters aren't casting spells, but rather wizards spells have turned into fighting moves. The wizard can Cast Magic Hadoken (er, Missile) as often as they want, and they'll never run out. Everyone has special attacks (whether martial or spells) that are...

    D&D 4E 4e and save or dies.

Honestly, "save or die" type spells are more powerful in the hands of players than they are for monsters. Monsters don't take up additional Feats or Orb Mastery to allow them to reduce the chance of a successful save significantly.

Wizard at 30 still using magic missle?

At level 1, Your Magic Missle hits for 2d4 + Int damage. At level 30, your magic missle with a +6 staff hits for 4d4 + int + 6, and crits for +6d10 damage. ... so, not much difference. ;)

Worst & most common DM mistakes

From a recent game I played in, I'll list some bad mistakes, and some examples of the mistakes in action... all from one play campaign. Being railroaded into stories with no ability to change what is going. - In my game, we were jumped by a small army in a forest, but yet nobody was allowed...

Arachnophobes: how creepy is an undead spider?

I find undead spiders less creepy than normal spiders, because I know normal spiders exist in real life, undead spiders don't.

DM refuses to switch; players want to

Run the game yourself, and invite the DM and others to play. If he's one of those "I refuse to play 4E under any circumstances" types, then his loss for being bullheaded. 4E is way easier to run than 3E is, and I think a lot more fun to run as well.

    Remembering third editions release

When 3E was about to be released, I remember having one of the guys in my 2E campaign compare 3E's feat prerequisites and minor trees to Diablo. Before the game came out, I imagined a deeper and more elaborate feat system than 3E actually delivered. However, even when I heard those comparisons...

Ray of Frost and Cloud of Daggers; Red Headed Stepchildren of Wizard At-Wills?

It was stated to be true in the Penny Arcade/PvP Podcast, however, I've tried to find any reference to this in the rules, and I'm convinced that the DM made a mistake.
