    Kitchen Sink vs. Parsimony?

In my game world, most everything in the standard books exists somewhere - but not everything exists everywhere. For example, in one part of the world there might be hill, stone, and mountain giants - but no frost, fire, cloud or storm giants. Or there might be no orcs or dwarves in one part of...

Maze of Zayene on Loot, what are they?

These are 1E modules (with slight jargon and name changes to avoid legal problems). I have run the "Plantmaster" module, and own the "Maze" modules. Good adventures IMO.

Why average wealth by level is a good thing.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to read the whole thread; I apologize if everything I'm about to write has already been written. First, a couple of nitpicks. One needed a +2 sword to hit an elemental, not +4. Almost nothing needed a +4 weapon - not even demon princes or archdevils. And...

    Inherent PC Superiority?

For me, it depends on the game. I started my Champions players as "low-powered superheroes" (150 points + up to 100 from disads) because I wanted them to be much more powerful than an ordinary person, but not so powerful that they can ignore "normal" opponents with impunity. For my AD&D 1E...

Power of the Mind (opining about psionics)

The distinction between science fiction and fantasy wasn't a sharp, bright line in earlier weird stories. So including science-fictional psychic abilities in a fantasy game may not have seemed like much of stretch. FWIW, I like a lot of things that straddle the SF/F boundary quite a bit. Are...

    Halflings or Hobbits?

Hobbits. Not a fan of the "slenderkender" of 3E.

    E.G.G. On Realism & Combat

I expect that you mean White Dwarf - although I also liked the early issues of White Wolf ;)

    Any Spelljammers out there?

I'm not sure that I'd agree. In any event, one can cross two very different things and still get a hybrid - at least in the world of games.

    Any Spelljammers out there?

I'm a player in a Spelljammer PBEM game. Sort of hybrid AD&D 2E/C&C rules.

    Where did campaigns stop?

The highest level that anyone has ever attained in my AD&D 1 game is 15th - but the camapign isn't over yet. IME, usually games ended because real life intervened (people graduated/got a new job/joined the military/left the military/moved etc) rather than at any set level.

    Outsiders?

There was a recent release (a few months back?) called "Monsters and Treasure of Aihrde" IIRC, that had demons and devils in it (and a bunch of other monsters too). Not the old standbys, different demons and devils.

    Climactic Sacrifice of PCs

My character in an old AD&D campaign was an artificial being created to oppose a certain group of baddies (I didn't know that at character creation, it was revelaed during the campaign). In the final confrontation with the baddies, a lever had to be held down to destroy the baddies' lair (and...

Ever see a Strengh 18/00 rolled legitimately?

I saw it once. Rolled in front of me.

Savage Worlds - Hit Point System?

De gustibus and all that. It just bothers me that my character could shoot a high toughness character and hit him time after time without doing any lasting damage to him. E.g. most pistols are 2d6+1 IIRC, and if the character has Toughness 12 (possible with the right edges) I'd need to ace to...

Savage Worlds - Hit Point System?

I also find the Savage Worlds damage rules to be unsatisfying. I'd be interested in seeing a variant, but I'm not sure that my GM would share that interest.

    Walking away from a game...

I played Shadowrun a few times, but didn't like the system or the world. Eventually my PC was being attacked through a spell lock by an astral foe (hopefully I have the terminology right; its been 10 or 15 years) and got badly damaged. The GM asked me why I hadn't disengaged the spell lock...

    AD&D or 5e

I'd support a re-release of the original AD&D by WotC. I'd also welcome a cure for all forms of cancer, the development of cold fusion, and a visitation from wise, benevolent aliens. I consider all 4 of the above to be approximately equally likely. ;)

    Huge monsters in E6

I'm not very familiar with E6, so I could be totally off base, but couldn't an army dispatch some of these threats? E.g., suppose the cloud giant you mentioned was facing 100 infantry and 100 archers. The infantry engage while the archers shoot. The archers hit the giant on a 20, right? So 5...

What if WotC just said "That's it."

The imagined scenario already happened as far as I'm concerned. I just kept on playing.

The Role of the Wizard, or "How Come Billy Gets to Create a Demiplane?"

Huh? I don't think that I've encountered that trope before. Well, more likely just an ordinarry angel. The Valar would be like archangels, I suppose. But I take your point; he wasn't just a man. However, if you go back and read Hobbit & LotR again, I think you'll see that he does do more...
