I think that's the idea; that a bard has less to do with music and singing than someone using their wits to get around/manipulate people. Personally, I like to see bards as a folk people first and foremost. Culture and folklore is their interest, and with it comes songs and tales.

Personally, I’ll play anything a DM is passionate about and enthusiastic to run. I easily get caught in their enthusiasm and have fun. Similarly, even my favourite setting is going to be dull if the DM isn’t into it

Wow, you guys are prolific… I played D&D 5e a Star Wars hack of The One Ring rules L5R (tried a bit of the 5e Adventure in Rokugan, than reverted back to roll-and-keep edition) Aliens RPG …and this was a good year

I may be wrong, but I dont think anyone is refuting that edition changes and evolution of a game is necessary, but rather the hard reset «this is a whole new set of rules» type of reedition. D&D to AD&D to 2e AD&D are closer to natural evolution than the jumps to 3.x to 4e to 5e, for example.
