What books did you use last session?

I think I need to sit at your table. June 25, Fri 1981 Basic D&D rulebook edited by Moldvay

Is it cheating for a GM to use a published adventure?

Yeah, I was hoping LostSoul forgot his ;) simley. The GM/DM does vastly more work when compared to the players. All they have to do is sit at the table and play. When the session is over they get up and leave and all they have to do is be excited until the next session. The DM has to prepare the...

Any of you pine for AD&D 1/2?

Thanks, dead. I acutally use a homebrew setting. I took the Blackmoor map from Dave Arneson's website and created my own world with it. There is a lot of Greyhawk in original AD&D (Tenser's floating disks, Bigby spells) but it does not neccessarily have to be set there. Many of the other OAD&D...

Any of you pine for AD&D 1/2?

Played since 1979. When 3e arrived, I played it for 2 1/2 years. I grew tired of it for reasons I won't cite (see below) and went back to Basic / Expert D&D, and subsequently to first edition AD&D. I haven't looked back nor do I plan to, as I hate 3rd edition, but that is a matter of personal...

    Little Changes with Big Flavor

This is probably the most useful thread I have seen in EN World. I remember copying it to the hard drive before my first exodus here. Now to go back to the earlier pages and see what I had written. ;)

I got to playtest Castles and Crusades!

    Nope, not quite either. ;)

I got to playtest Castles and Crusades!

It's all a matter of game playing styles. I am the kind of DM that likes to do things on the fly within a loose framework. If I am the Dm I would feel wrong by asking a player, a "rules lawyer" how to handle something I should be doing. Why not he be the DM?

I got to playtest Castles and Crusades!

 The results will be most interesting. Here are some things I can say, In my tests, combat was fast. Character creation, for me at least, is very fast. It was very refreshing. Like Fiff et. al. said, it will not be d20 lite, BUT I think the d20 fans who were looking for d20 lite will...

I got to playtest Castles and Crusades!

...and I said I would never post here again. :] Well, as one of the C&C playtesters, I have to say this game is total "butt kicking for goodness!" as Minsc would say. I won't say anything about the rules (and NDA stuff) but I will say I haven't been this excited about a RPG in a long time...

Tell me about 2E's excessive product-necessity

In all honesty, there are really only two books needed for 2nd ed. The PHB and the MM, (not the three ring binder, which was a good idea but badly implimented, the actual manual is what I am talking about). A neophyte DM could find most of the DMG helpful, but for experienced Judges, except for...

    Pinnacle's Savage Worlds

Henry is 100% correct. As someone who is involved in the development stage, I can't say much cause of the NDA's, but I will say I think this game is going to hit the mark perfectly, for the description Henry gives. :)

    Pinnacle's Savage Worlds

Yeah, I said I would never post here again, but, I had too with SW being my 2nd favorite game, and all. ;) I have to agree. The book reads kind of wonky. You actually have to play this gem twice or three times for it to blossom. In all actuality, I don't even need to crack open the rulebook...

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Old One, I just wanted to say, even though belated, congrats on the little tyke. He looks wonderful. I am glad to see the story is still going. All is well here. I rarely check EN World anymore, but I will keep up with Faded Glory. :)

Any more info on Castles and Crusades?

Ok, you are right, genius. OAD&D sucks cause of the leeway it gives the DM, and d20 is perfect since all rules are codified leaving no room for ad hoc adjudication. Sorry, Henry. I am going back to my den on the web where I belong. No more posts for me here at EN World.

Any more info on Castles and Crusades?

I think really I am so excited cause I thought, during the pre 3e release hype, that 3e was going to be lighter on the rules then it really was/is. After about 2 years of d20 D&D, I finally admitted it wasn't for me. I tried to write a "Basic" d20 version, but never got to finish it. I see C&C...

Any more info on Castles and Crusades?

Yes. I never liked Multiclassing anyway, especially when there are no restrictions. Bob and Joe are different cause of the way the players play them, not cause of numbers written on their character sheet. The wizard can learn to pick a lock, if he is willing to suffer the consequences for...

Any more info on Castles and Crusades?

Wow, you felt so strongly about this you had to reply three times. Why would you not trust his rules judgement? Have you ever read any of the Original AD&D rulebooks, especially the DMG? Have you ever played Keep on the Borderlands? Despite what Wizards is selling you, d20 D&D is not the be...

    Updated Old Dungeons and Dragons

Judging by the impression I am getting from TLG, it is NOT going to be the same game. That is why they are doing it.

Any more info on Castles and Crusades?

In all honesty, I am more excited by the fact the EGG likes the system enough that he would consider using it for CG/CZ than I am of this legenary locale actually ever coming out.
