    The Genius of D&D

Monte said: While I disagree with a lot of what Monte says, I agree that this statement is more powerful than one can gather from just glancing at it. I think 3e is simple for us, the experienced gamer. I think it is a little taxing for the newcomer, and takes some getting used to. Why...

Better Name for Elven Concentration Camp

At least you didn't say Drowschwitz. I would stay away from these for obvious reasons. Plus they don't seems to really to convey a fantasy feel, as much as a horror feel.

LOTR Movie Soundtrack wasnt that good...

Yes, Harry Potter. It is a great disc to spin on Halloween too. FWIW, for what it's worth. :D

    LotR RPG? Anyone getting this?

You bet your sweet patooty! I have been waiting for this for a long time. Its will be mines precious! On the designers: no need to say anything more. Steve Long is one of the best. On the Decipher boards: First, I would like to thank Ranger REG, who eligantly presented me an out of a...

LOTR Movie Soundtrack wasnt that good...

Not going to flame you. But I do have to say it took a good 2 or 3 spins before I liked it. I felt the same way after the first time I heard it. But now, I just love it. Keep listening, it will grow on you. Except for maybe Star Wars, any movie soundtrack against "Conan the Barbarian" is like...

Does anyone else think it is ridiculous that Sorcerers use components and such?

While I don't personally like wizards, I do see their place in the game. They are the "scientist" of magic while the sorcerer is the "artist." I have grown out of the Vancian fire and forget model. (I also tend to shy away from spellcasting classes, also, because of it. ) It is a quick and...

Against the Shadows VI - A Faded Glory Story Hour

Old One, I have finally caught up after a long absence here. Fantasic! This is truely an epic tale. Maybe now we can get to some nautical adventures. Or, maybe the Isle spoken of is actually a cloud island in the sky. Nah! That would not fit into FG too well I guess. However, I would have...

(OT) LOTR extended edition gets PG-13 rating

My guess is they didn't cut anything. The way it sounded from the press release, they sent it for eval, expecting to get an "R" rating, and didn't care if it did. Whatever criteria was used, it must not have filled the bill for "extreme violence" or whatever gives it the "R".

    In defense of Open Gaming

CoF is Necromancer Games best selling module. I think Clark was saying that it has sold somewhere between 10-12k copies. If I find the actual post I will edit the number. The newest release, Tomb of Abyshtor, had 6000 copies printed. They are all gone from the WW warehouse. All of them. So if...

    Opinions on Spycraft?

How far back does Spycraft go in time? The reason I ask is because I think playing Allied Forces operatives during WWII deep within enemy lines in Europe would be mucho exciting. Just thinking of a few movies like "The Big Red One" or "Where Eagles Dare" seem more military oriented than the...

    Opinions on Spycraft?

I just finished reading through the Spycraft Lite download. All I can say is WOW! Action Dice: A nice idea. I wonder how it feels during actual gameplay. Actions: I have been saying for a long time, the actions as described in the 3e PHB were a little confusing, until read several times...

    In defense of Open Gaming

Greetings, Wolfspider. I remember that. I guess I too belong over here with the "fecus eating flies" ;) I have to say a good DM/GM/storyteller/narrator/whatever can make any system work for any setting, even if not intended to do so. Granted, I don't think "D&D" could handle Tolkien...

Aloha, REG. Did you ever get to see if Jellies in the Pearl Kai shopping center is still there? I find it very amusing that not even the Decipher people hang around their own message boards, save an occasional post by Ross Issacs. Now I know why. :D I have gotten more info in the CODA system...

    In defense of Open Gaming

Re: Re: In defense of Open Gaming Opps! Sorry Allen. I really didn't say what I ment. Maybe, I should have put "mostly" instead of "only" , cause I too have purchased other systems recently, most notably Hackmaster. Thanks for the re-assurance, guys. And I couldn't agree with Randolpho...

    In defense of Open Gaming

So, I am over at the Decipher Star Trek Boards. One poster says, "open gaming is the worst thing to happen to gaming ever." I ask Why, just out of curiosity, just to see what the guy's opinion is. Then some other dude responds by insulting me (at least in my eyes, but maybe I took it wrong.) I...

Human only campaigns - good? bad? tips? ideas?

Without giving too much away cause it isn't OGL, There are several different backgrounds, or "origins" your character comes from. The All Americian is the standard 1 xtra feat / 4 extra skill points at 1st level type human. But then the other origins are given other "origin" (insert: race)...

Help Me, Teach Newly Recruited Girl Gamer Learn DnD

I will always recomend the D&D Adventure Game boxed set for teaching new players. IMO, it is the most under-rated tool a DM can have to teach newbies the concept of "playing" D&D, even with the omission of some rules. It truely is rules-lite. Run her through a couple of adventures in it to get...

Human only campaigns - good? bad? tips? ideas?

I would love all human campaign, but do think either regional feats (which might be easier) or changes to the baseline would be in order. If you have the Dungeon/Polyhedron with Pulp Heroes, check it out for character creation on how they differentiated various upbringings and cultures by stat...
