Was there only one DM at your table?

Back in suburban Southern New Jersey in the early eighties, I would say 3 out of 4 D&D players had some kind of DM experience, (albeit maybe not good experience) cause everyone was experimenting and wanted to try both sides of the screen.

Playing D&D with only the PHB

Hum, it may have been during that time frame. I have the 1st print, but the adversaries were not monsters at all, but generated characters. So what would some of the challenges of playing this way be? Commoners, they all have 1d4-1 HP and a -1 BAB if you ask me. Simple enough ;)

    OD&D or RC?

I can't remember where but T. Foster might know where to find the threads about discussions of the original campaigns, i.e., Blackmoor and Greyhawk. This practice was very common, and might be yet another reason to choose the original set, (since what I posted before about the smaller gap...

Playing D&D with only the PHB

I seem to remember reading someone's post here a while ago, might have actually been a story hour but I can't find it now, where the group was only using the Player's Handbook, not even the DMG or any single monster manual. The theme was that the adversaries were from different kingdoms but only...

    D&D 4E 4e price increase?

I will tell you what the real issue is. Quality Control. Why should I pay $35 dollars for books that are going to be riddled with typos and errors? We all know that this has become the standard modus operandi in the modern RPG industry. Look at the 3e books and errata. What is even more...

    OD&D or RC?

Both are equally suitable for long term campaigning. The difference is that if using the OD&D books, Vol I-III, you might have to use the supplements, Dragon and Strategic Review Articles (found the the Dragon archive CD Rom), other sources like Judges Guild products, and some well crafted...

    My first Savage Worlds experience...

The leader idea is a good one. This was way back when the game first came out so I don't remember it in too much detail, (though I think I wrote it up somewhere.) I am sure I was using the stats right from the book. I had the first edition, too. IIRC, the newer editions give you a single bonus...

    My first Savage Worlds experience...

My quick tips on Savage Worlds: 1. Run and/or play it AT LEAST three times. For some reason after the third game or so it just seems to click. 2. For fantasy, magic needs some tinkering. This is not a bad thing, as you can inject the flavor you want with the type of spells you like. I...

Which Ranger do you prefer, the original 1E ranger or the UA ranger?

The ranger in the PHB. As I am no fan of UA to begin with, it should be no surprise that I don't care for the UA ranger. ;)

Who's getting the freebies from RPGNow?

Right. But I had been trying to order them since 8am. Such is life I guess.

Who's getting the freebies from RPGNow?

This is the message I received from Tech Support: Meaning...all of us that tried to download the stuff for Tuesday are SOL. :(

Who's getting the freebies from RPGNow?

Well, both Runequest and Rolemaster Express that I had been trying to download were both in my shopping cart for $0.00. Now mysteriously at 10:15 am they are back to the regular retail price. Shame on you drivethru. What a scam!

Who's getting the freebies from RPGNow?

I am getting the same message. I am trying to get both Runequest and Rolemaster Express, along with a few other things, and no matter what I do the same message comes up. If the sale day starts at 10am, then the previous sales should END at 10am also. It would stink if there was a 10 hour gap...

    soundtracks

I used to like the Baldur's Gate (original) soundtrack, but after many listens, I noticed a lot of similarities to the "Conan the Barbarian" soundtrack. So, I stuck with the original. I have the Planescape: Torment soundtrack too, but it seems a little too, how can I say it, "mystical" for my...

I miss Dual Classing and the power of nostalgia

Yet another reason to stay away from the thief in Sup I. ;)

    soundtracks

Oh I forgot. I have this CD I got from the library called "The Silk Road" which is a compilation put together by National Geographic of various native music from, well, the Silk Road, (from the Middle East to East Asia.) I highly recommend it. Also, Angels of Venice, the self titled CD from...

I miss Dual Classing and the power of nostalgia

While we are on the topic, dialgo, since the reference in Men & Magic is very vague, how do you handle dual-classing? Do you let the character still use the abilities of the older class, or do they not have access to those abilities until the meet or exceed that level (like in AD&D) OR do they...

    soundtracks

These three are on my "most played" list, and are perfect. However, there is one that I am appalled that hasn't been mentioned yet that usually comes up in the first 2-3 posts. CONAN THE BARBARIAN Some other good ones are the Gladiator Sountrack and the one for Diablo II which IIRC is still...

    South Jersey (Burl. Co.) Gamers

For those that are posting here and not Dragonsfoot, what does your schedule look like for the first week in January? I am trying to gauge availability for that time frame for the Winter Break Megadungeon Marathon Game. HOWEVER, for those that live close to me, (dmccoy, wayne, who else is...

    South Jersey (Burl. Co.) Gamers

We will wait for grodog's schedule for a little more solid planning of the Winter Break Marathon Game. In the meantime, I found a stack of huge sheet graph paper, something like 18"x24" a sheet, and started making my old school mega dungeon, as it appears that I will be DM'ing. My game of choice...
