    D&D 5E (2014) Tool Use

Are you saying that you don't read the book cover to cover, remembering these kind of things? ;) I did, and it might even have been the equipment section rather than the adventure that I was thinking about.

    D&D 5E (2014) What will 5E D&D be remembered for?

Thanks EzekielRaiden for clarifying :) Back on topic I think that that 5e will be remembered for being easy to start with (relatively easy rules, the free basic rules and a great Starter Set) and for having a good and probably sustainable business plan from the start. Another big thing I think...

    D&D 5E (2014) What will 5E D&D be remembered for?

I would like an explanation. Do you define 4e fans as looking for tactical combat with lots of options and little room for TotM style play? I'm trying to figure out if I could count as a 4e fan at all in that statement. I really liked 4e, I miss the warlord a bit and I mostly miss feeling...

    Character Idea Help

For 4e it works really well. I think I once made a plan for a dragonborn sorcerer who would be Io reborn.

    Character Idea Help

There is a rain god in one of the "hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy" novels. It rains a lot around him and he could thus be a storm sorcerer.

    Character Idea Help

Talk to your DM first. Without DM buy-in it will probably be very hard to pull off, no matter how well you build your character. If you are the DM and the character is an NPC it might be easier (no need to limit to the class abilities). Some classes that could fit with night+nature: cleric...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tool Use

In the published adventure I run I think I've seen things along the lines of "a character proficient with lock picking tools may attempt to unlock this door with a DC15." So some tools (typically) require proficiency to even try (but it's written at the same place as the DC, not under the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is there too much gold/reward?

And that's for humans. Now imagine the needed retirement fund of an elf (e.g. Wood elf druid with slower ageing).

D&D 5E (2014) "reasonable" gold rewards for PC calculated on village/city size

I think Danegeld could be reasonable as to how much a community would pay to get rid of all the serious and dire threats for a year. The Danegeld was the tribute to avoid raids, not the total tax.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is there too much gold/reward?

You don't need to have magical bonuses to buy. Real estate, maybe art and similar things could be reasonable as well.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is there too much gold/reward?

There's also the tone set by published adventures, and I guess the Starter Set is particularly relevant since it aims to educate new players.

    Visible AC

If my players explicit asked for the AC I would tell them, and I sort of expect them to figure it out of they want to. However, unless they make an explicit guess or question about any of those values I don't tell them. I did tell them the HP of one enemy when they started guessing after a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is there too much gold/reward?

I'm running the Starter Set adventure pretty much as written (except including a bunch more redbrands because it made sense to the players and seemed more satisfying). I also noted this "lots of gold" thing, in particular since the PCs haven't really had a reason to spend much of it yet. Instead...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is the rapier "necessary"?

I don't get the idea that rapiers would be civilian. During the 30-year was I think rapier was the standard sword in the Swedish army. And even if it is more civilian that also makes sense to me for adventurers. The "too modern" argument is nothing I can really counter.

    Potions? Alchemist Kit?

Potion of healing takes 10 days of downtime to craft, consumes raw material worth 25gp and requires proficiency in herbalism kit (equipment list prices+description of herbalism kit+crafting as downtime activity). Change herbalism kit for alchemist's supplies and I would say the same thing works...

    D&D 5E (2014) "The" Lich?

Thanks! I was mostly curious about the out of story timeline to get a better idea of who might regard Vecna mostly as god or mostly as lich. I guess the spoilers involve Kas, the Sword of Kas and the body parts of Vecna somehow (as described in DMG).

    D&D 5E (2014) "The" Lich?

Question about Vecna as god: I started playing D&D during 4e and I think it wasn't until SCAG I ever saw anything about Vecna once being a lich. So when did the ascension happen in publishing? Was it sometime during 3.X? If I recall correctly Vecna was one of the gods mentioned in 4e PHB, but I...

    Potions? Alchemist Kit?

I think the herbalism kit let you craft a potion of healing at half the price listed in the equipment section (I don't recall the time needed, could be noted there as well or follow the downtime crafting rules). I think that alchemy kit should be the same way with alchemist's fire from the PHB.

    D&D 5E (2014) "The" Lich?

The iconic lich to me is Lorlach, but I could not name him until I saw the name in the thread. Sazz Tam is, as someone mentioned previously, first the ruler of Thay, second a lich. Lorlach if the only one I know of as a lich first, other potential things second (such as chosen, ruler of other...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana March 2016 Review

I took the "include some of their material" as a possible "we might make changes or only use a few features" and thus I assumed that surveys could include playtest style questions. The "work with creators" could also be "how do we use these playtest style feedback". Something along the lines of...
