    Alternate ranger abilities?

One word: What? I hear this term get tossed around a lot, but I'm not really sure what it means. Does is mean a class that gets a lot of abilities in the first few levels? If so, the variations on the Ranger that I suggested are no more front-loaded than the standard Ranger, as the abilities...

    Baby Leopard Stats

I'm going with option 3. Thanks, Klaus.

    Wolverine type char

Wolvie's claws are made of bone. My bones will also grow back. It's a process called ossification, not regeneration in the troll sense of the word. Of course, his healing factor helped them to heal faster. I contend that Wolverine could not endure an injury that would outright kill a normal...

    Wolverine type char

Wolvie doesn't regrow detached limbs, as far as I know.

    Baby Leopard Stats

As a first level druid, selection in animal companions is very limited. However, I have the opportunity to befriend a baby leopard, which will one day grow up to be an adult leopard (hopefully about the time I reach Druid level 4). I may be able to convince my DM to let me have the baby...

    Evard's Black Tentacles

Grease is one of the most underrated spells in the PHB; it works great in situations like this. With Still Spell, it only takes up a 2nd-level slot.

    Why are Apes size Large?

If the ape were measured as a quadruped, it would have a given length, not height (like the baboon). A 10-ft. reach for a gorilla is downright unrealistic. To make a gorilla, make them Medium with 5-ft. reach, maybe Powerful Build (I'd be inclined to give them a dwarf's bonus vs. trip and...

    Non-casting Ranger variant? Substitution levels...

I know that Races of the Wild gives racial substitution levels for halfling rogues.

    Alternate ranger abilities?

+1d6 of skirmish damage for every level the Ranger would gain FE bonuses may not be too overpowered, but with the speed increases, it definitely is. Alternately, I think you could safely provide Fast Movement, Uncanny Dodge, and Improved Uncanny Dodge as replacements. Perhaps at levels 1, 5...

Putting the Skill Back in Speak Language

I too have no Common tongue in my campaign. This is a system I started working on last night. I was going to post it for review after I'd worked on it a bit more, but since this thread's already up... Comments and criticism are welcome.

    Custom Class: Priest

I designed it this way on purpose, of course. The fewer worshippers a god has, the less powerful it is. The less powerful it is, the fewer powers it can grant, and the less popular it is. It makes a lot of sense to me, balance aside. If someone wanted to play a priest of a lesser god, it...

    Dark Tower campaign

If I wanted to run a campaign based in the world of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which ruleset/CS would be the best to use?

Psions and Wilders as arcane casters?

I'm thinking about using the Psion and Wilder classes as a replacement for Wizard and Sorcerer in my new campaign, only having them cast arcane spells instead of psionic powers. I would also keep the arcane spell failure from armor intact (though maybe not, for the Wilder). I would have to...

    Custom Class: Priest

I really wanted to do something like this. The problems that I ran into with custom spell lists is that my players and I both use so many spells from outside the PHB. It would be such a pain to assign every divine spell from every book we use to custom spell lists for priests. I suppose I...

How do you keep your mages in check?

Mostly flavor. The spells I think are entirely too powerful I'll just disallow. In this campaign, no spells are openly shared or commonly known. It's a wich-burning society. Wizards' guilds are secretive by necessity. Nice.

    Custom Class: Priest

I started to wonder why all clerics had access to the same spell list, when it doesn't make sense for certain gods to grant access to spells that are either completey unrelated to, or contrary to, their portfolio. I came up with this idea: The new class, called "Priest" would give the same...

How do you keep your mages in check?

If you want to keep tight control on which spells you want your mages to be able to learn, do you do it mechanically (with house rules), or do you fluff it with RP reasons, or a combination of both? I've been trying to put together a spell-prerequisite house rule that forces casters to be a bit...

What do you do for... Feats?

i've been thinking about doing this. it's mostly because i run a very low-magic campaign, but defense bonuses and action points have compensated pretty well so far. i really like the level 1 talent idea, and i'm already using that. the talents that i allow are pretty much all feats that add...

Balancing the system for broke PCs

does Iron Heroes give CR conversion charts for various MM monsters and other encounters? i know a little bit about the token system. from what i understand, it works somewhat like action points, where the tokens allow PCs to perform feats?
