    15 Minute Workday Myth?

How is that a variant rule? It's walking. If anything it falls into the realm of DM interpretation. It's not a house rule.

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

Personally I don't see it as a problem in this edition because of the DC for traps and the time it can take to search a dungeon. I'm just hoping they continue with this approach for the next edition, and spell it out a little more clearly.

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm#forcedMarch You walk in the dungeon while searching, so I think this rule should apply. Rest isn't required after 8 hours but there are potential problems if you continue for "eight days straight".

But you can fail by 4 on DD, and there are more tools and synergies for that. It also doesn't hose the whole party, just the rogue (who has evasion, trap sense, high saves, etc). I'm all for rolling disable device, even if the DC is high. That's what makes a rogue's life exciting. But it...

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

The effect isn't exactly the same. If you have a time sink for exploration then exploration becomes the motivating factor for rest, not encounters. I like to run games where the party is trying to find something in the dungeon, not necessarily kill everything there. Time spent exploring will...

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

What exactly is she doing? Getting goggles of minute seeing? Sinking in valuable feats just for search? Even if she does have a +16, at 11th level most of the traps are search DC 34. She'll need to take 20 or more than likely she'll miss it.

You only get the XP if you disable the trap, not if you find the trap. Disabling requries a roll because there IS a chance for failure, so there's no "free xp".

Races and Classes cover on Amazon!

Of course anything is collectible. Stamp collections, leaf collections, bottlecap collections; they don't have to go up in price to be worth collecting. This is a reminder of the speculation period we're having right now. And judging from the amount of buzz 8 months before the game comes out...

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

I don't see this as a problem though. In fact, I think it would be more of a problem if they don't have to stop fighting between encounters. You get the "level three times in one day" problem. Now you HAVE TO to institute a time sink like encouraging players to take 20 on the rooms they...

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

OK, it's not: DM: "You're in a kitchen area. There is a cauldron above a fireplace and some sacks of food in the corner." Player: "What's in this square? I take 20!" DM: "Nothing." Player: "What about that one?" DM: "Nothing." Again, that's NOT how we play. Remember that taking 20...

Races and Classes cover on Amazon!

I haven't seen the hardcover that cheap. But it's still something to collect, whether now or in the future. It doesn't necessarily have to maintain its monetary value to make you feel like you've added something to your shelf that's going to stay there for years to come as a keepsake. It's...

Races and Classes cover on Amazon!

If you had a good time on these boards speculating about 4th edition, then the preview book is a keepsake for that period of speculation, not the edition itself. It will go next to the Spined Devil I hope to get on World D&D Game Day.

    15 Minute Workday Myth?

I'll admit I have run a 15 minute workday in D&D. However, it was the result of playstyle. In the past few years, however, I've encouraged players to take 20 on every single five foot square they find. It takes 2 minutes per square to do this. The average dungeon I run players through has...

Races and Classes cover on Amazon!

Has anyone else mentioned that this could be a collectible item? How many people bought the 30 years of adventure coffee table book? Whether 4.0 fails or succeeds, the preview books will be keepsakes. It could also have value from now until 4th edition is out. It might help DMs prepare...

Attention WotC: Drop the must-sign-in thing until it works, please.

Well then they need to see that. If they don't get reports showing failed login attempts or a massive decrease in links to Dragon articles, they should make those reports. And they should have a link to a bug report somewhere, or at the very least people who want to see the articles should go...

Attention WotC: Drop the must-sign-in thing until it works, please.

I also have had no problems accessing the content. I would rather have them keep it up and help out all of you who can't get in NOW rather than later. If they don't require you to sign in then you won't sign in. If you don't sign in then you won't find the problems. I would rather have...

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

The hp seem to support the 1/2 level added to stat mod theory, IMO. If the base con mod is still +2, then we have +12 hit points. If an immortal outsider or skirmisher gets 10 hp at first level, 5 hp every level after that would be 35 from class, resulting in 47 total. Or maybe you get even...

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

In this case, I'm assuming that the skirmisher is +4 bab. A skirmisher might have the highest bab, I don't know. You're looking at the wrong stats. There are two sets; one for 3.5 and one for 4th.

    ability scores and modifiers

Cross posting this from the stat card preview: If it really is 1/2 level plus base attack, then consider a 20th level fighter (instead of skirmisher) with 24 strength: +7 from attribute formula (score-10/2) +10 level +20 bab? +37 to hit? That's the baseline? At 10th it's +22 and at 30th it's...
