Any rules for digging in dirt and stone?

Thanks for the answers guys. The situation arose that the characters were facing an upcoming sandstorm and they were looking to dig into an earthen (dirt and stone mix) cliffside to create some protection for themselves.

Kneeling, what kind of action is it?

In the Combat Modifiers chart it states that a "kneeling or sitting" characters has armor class modifiers of -2 vs melee, +2 vs ranged attacks. My question is what kind of action is kneeling? If it is a free-action, should there be a limit to the number of times you can do so? Anyone know of any...

I hate AIM, but I'm stuck using it...

I recently had to re-install XP on my PC and I'm dreading putting AIM on it. My wife uses AIM, so I have to install it at some point (or something that allows us to use it). I know there are some other programs out there that let you use AIM. Any one have any recommendations on what program to...

Any rules for digging in dirt and stone?

Hey, are there any books out there that have rules for digging in stone or dirt? I have some PC's in a hurry to dig a hole in a cliff wall and I'm trying to find out how much they can do in a day. Thanks guys!

    Help with Romance

Here are a few I've done for my wife on the cheap... • On a rainy day we had a picnic at the art museum, I had arranged it ahead of time and they didn't mind. • Bed and Breakfast inns can be affordable at the right times of year. Call around to all your local ones, but you may be able to find...

Yet Another Lonely-Gamer Thread UPDATE 7-8!!!!

Lol, I should have known. TheUnknownSoul, I agree with the others here... it seems like you're taking a step back, not forwards. Either choose to drop her as a friend, or choose to persue her. And if you want a romantic relationship, don't be shy and passive. It makes her feel unwanted and...

Yet Another Lonely-Gamer Thread UPDATE 7-8!!!!

Before I got married I would go to the kind of places the women I found attractive (skinny nerd women) were likely to be. College libraries: I wasn't even a student, but I was looking up some books. Bookstores, though they can be difficult due to the quiet atmosphere. Quirky stores are a good...

Yet Another Lonely-Gamer Thread UPDATE 7-8!!!!

I would not recommend using other people that way. The internet is a wonderful place to take care of those feelings, or get a hooker, something. But I wouldn't do that. It's pretty harmful towards the person you're using, especially since it's unlikely you'll be honest with them on that issue.

Yet Another Lonely-Gamer Thread UPDATE 7-8!!!!

Personally, I don't think it sounds that doom and gloom. Based on what you've said (look at what's happened closely, and make sure it's happening, not just something you're wanting to happen) it sounds like she might be considering the notion of a relationship. The kissing and other things might...

NBC's "Heroes" 4 minute preview trailer

Gotta agree... looks pretty darn cool.

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

It is extremely hard and it takes a long time to get to it. I don't think it's possible in a short campaign. The NPCs and PCs need a long time to develop properly. Honestly though, none of it would be possible if the players weren't willing to take that dive. If they aren't willing to immerse...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

To be fair, a better comparison would The Thin Red Line or The Deer Hunter vs Master and Commander or the Guns of Navarrone. Both are good, but are extremely different in approach and goals. My apologies for coming across snobbish on that, it's just not the kind of game I enjoy.

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

That's the difference, we're looking for extremely thought out characters with a deep emotional life. We're looking to get attached to them. Otherwise, for us at least, it would all be rather hallow and meaningless. No matter how intriguing the plot, how complex, if it doesn't have an emotional...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

Hate to break it to you, of the four women that have been in my games long term, only two have cried (mind you, that the two that hadn't are relatively new players, one has only been with the group for 1.5 years and the other 6 months). Those that do, and do most often, tend to be the guys :)...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

I suspect most people would think it's silly. But, it's simply an issue of what you want out of a role-playing game. Most of the friends I have at work that do play would hate the kind of game I run. They get together for 3-4 hours once every two weeks, they have no time for character...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

I've been playing D&D for 25 years. If our game stayed simply hack and slash, an endless dungeon runs, gathering treasure for some sort of relatively meaningless set of numbers that compromises a datasheet, and it had none of the emotional complexity and intellectual stimulation that compromises...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

I don't see why it would be any different than seeing someone cry at a movie. Trust me, it's not something that happens out of the blue. When it does occur, it is clear to everyone at the table that it is an emotionally impactful event, and everyone feels it. Not all may shed a tear (it's still...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

Same here. And all the campaigns this has happened at have gone on for at least 2.5 years, gaming 7-12 hours once a week.

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

To clarify some things on the original post: I don't mean to imply that the players themselves are feeling a personal sense of real and actual loss at the death of an NPC, etc. But that those players (and myself) tap into those emotions we've experienced ourselves, and reflect it in the...

Ever had an RPG bring a tear to your player's eyes (or your own)?

This is quite different from what we've experienced. The emotion isn't about the player (or players), which seems to be the case in your example, but more about the individuals in the story. What we have experienced is more like crying at an emotionally charged movie or book. It's about...
