    Firearms Preview

I still think these are probably the best firearms rules for D&D (of any edition) that I've seen. They make them worthwhile but not overpowered. But load standard wasn't enough. Now they're load 2? :D Mock outrage aside, I don't think there's much of a practical difference between the two...

ZEITGEIST The ZEITGEIST Booster Project Kickstarter

The only negative PR I can see is that it might be seen as framing the project as amateur. "Professional publishers don't need donations" kind of thing. I don't personally agree, either that it presents that image or that - even if it does - that it's a bad thing. RPGs are a heavily...

    Monster Manual 3 New Math?

You poor buggers. Our DM introduced us to the new math in the module, and it was a very rude shock. :)

Campaign writeup (2 updates September 7th)

Out of interest, did you play this combat out using powers, or did you abstract it somehow? If the former, how long did it take and how did the other players react? Boredom? Interest? Snack run? If the latter, how did you do it?

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

Dang, that's a lot of adjectives. I know adjectives are one of the genre staples of fantasy writing, but you can take it too far...

    Triggered Actions - Some Clarifications?

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was simply pointing out one of the most obvious considerations attached to the question.

    Triggered Actions - Some Clarifications?

Which, for most purposes, means the OA should come before the immediate interrupt because it is a near-infinite resource, whereas immediate actions are by definition limited to once per round and are often encounter powers to boot. In fact, I can't really think of a reason to do it the other...

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

How are people supposed to reply if you keep editting your post? :p You yourself have commented on the lethality of at least 2 of the monsters excerpted from MV:NV (the fellcourt whatsit and Calastryx). Another has an attack that specifically kills unconscious PCs. Not "is best suited to...

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

"Nature check + a day off + Enchant Item ritual = New Items (which are possibly better-tailored to the party than the old ones were)" is not my idea of brutal. Rust monsters can stop a PC excursion in their tracks by forcing a retreat, but they're nowhere near as final as they used to be...

MV: Threats to the Nentir Vale in my hands

Compare and contrast 4e rust monsters vs 4e perytons. Both monsters have a history of saying "suck it" to PCs in fairly long-term ways, but when WotC updated rust monsters for 4e they deliberately limited the finality of their signature move. Contrast that against the peryton. WotC could...

    D&D 4E Do you mix'n'match Essentials with standard 4e?

In my upcoming Zeitgeist campaign, I'm allowing the players open access to Essentials and Original content. I'm currently planning to give out the old Expertise feats for free at approximately level 10. If the players want one of the E-Expertise feats, they need to spend a feat as usual*...

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, then :)

Marks "Attack that does not include you..."

Fair enough. I was mainly responding to your earlier comments that "There's no reason to go against RAW on this." A more accurate statement IMO is to say "There is no clear RAW on this" All of your examples start from the premises that 'attack' = 'attack power', and there isn't really...

Marks "Attack that does not include you..."

Can you provide rules reference for the bolded statements? I acknowledge the logic behind them, but they strike me more as self-justification than any RAW I've ever seen on the matter.

Marks "Attack that does not include you..."

I'd rule the other way, which I suppose proves Obryn's point. My rule of thumb is that unless it's an area or close power, it involves more than one attack. I think you may be overestimating the effect of a defender's mark. It doesn't "lock down the monster's targetting at all", simply...

    ZEITGEIST Psionics in Zeitgeist

(My underlining) I'm intrigued by what the underlined text implies about the nature of the adventure path. As if waiting for Zeitgest wasn't driving me mad already!

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

I'm not. My limited experience suggests that some of the MM3 changes put monster math beyond the bounds of safety for casual players. If Calastryx is some sort of indication of the new default, then I fear casual players will be completely unable to keep up with the monster math.
