Gears of Revolution: A Zeitgeist campaign

Session 18: Dawn Square Tok, Erik and Kuri took up position near the empty stage and scanned the crowd. Two skyseer-liveried wagons stood behind the massive stage, each tended by a white-robed druid. A small knot of skyseer attendants waited on the southern edge of the square for Nevard’s...

n00bish questions regarding creating a campaign

I can't find the title at the moment but there is a third party supplement dealing with exactly these sort of missions/encounters. It might have been published by Sneak Attack Press (or that could just be word association in action). I'm pretty sure the author had some articles or news on EN...

    Witchoil clarification

From reading and running Island at the Axis of the World and the Dying Skyseer, I understand that witchoil captures souls. It is also a powerful fuel source. Macbannin is planting vials around Flint to catch souls and power the witchoil. What I'm not clear on is whether the witchoil in...

Dr. Recklinghausen importance in the plot

The way I see it, the Ob want Dr Recklingshausen only because he spoke to Nilasa before she died and was given the documents (and had enough time to read them). If Macbannin's role has been fully exposed, then neither Recklingshausen or the documents pose any further threat to the Ob and they...

What monster/trap would make a good sentry turret?

Just what I was looking for. Thanks

quicker battle mechanics? (not simply halving HP)

No. The die is used only on a marker. In round 1, the die is not used. In round 2, the die is turned to show a '1', and combatants get +1 atk and +1 dam. In round 3, the die is turned to show a '2' and combatants get +2 atk and +2 dam. etc

    A Motive for this Villain?

My first thought is that the sacrifice of that many souls at once might be fuel for some other ritual he has planned. Or it might even just be a decoy, and his real target is elsewhere - the chaos caused by the eldritch machine's explosion is just to distract attention away from what he's...

What monster/trap would make a good sentry turret?

For an upcoming encounter in my Zeitgeist campaign, I want to surprise my players with a steampunk equivalent of the sentry guns from Aliens: sentry turrets from Aliens. Obviously a fully automatic turret is inappropriate for a fantasy campaign (even a steampunk one), but I'm looking for...

    Readying Tide of Iron

You could technically ready Tide of Iron to attack "the first enemy who ends their move adjacent to me". That phrasing would mean that their move has finished before your attack, but that your attack goes off before theirs. It just begs for the DM to screw with you though, and in my personal...

Augmenting Whetstones - AV - fair game ?

They can also be useful for giving your melee combatant a viable ranged attack (by using them on a mundane javelin or bow) for an encounter of two instead of ponying up the cash for a magical ranged weapon.

quicker battle mechanics? (not simply halving HP)

The OP's proposal is how the escalation die from 13th Age works (except the escalation die only affects PCs). Ever since reading about it, I've been pondering applying it to all combatants and using it in my games. It certainly seems like it would wipe at least a round off an average combat.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

It affects me. My group is spread across three cities and two countries. Our only oportunity to play test would be online.

    ZEITGEIST A Pixie in Zeitgeist?

I actually don't see any in-game problem with a Pixie PC. While King Aodhan may be progressive, there are clearly traditionalists in both the aristocracy (eg. Duchess Ethelyn) and the military (eg. the naval commanders who begrudge Geoff Massarde his steamship). Add to that the discontent...

Gears of Revolution: A Zeitgeist campaign

Session 17: Audience with the Wind As Gale's messenger wind whipped away into Flint's packed streets, RT3 received word that Assistant Chief inspector Delft had reported for work and wished to see them. Delft introduced the constables to Kuri, a gnomish constable assigned to RT1 but whom he had...

Gears of Revolution: A Zeitgeist campaign

Session 16: Revelations Erik moved to bind and search the unconscious shadowy figure as Tok moved slowly toward the church’s entrance. Meanwhile Thornt called Wilheim aside and the two of them commenced a ritual that would send Gale’s canary to RHC headquarters for help. Erik confiscated the...

    Digging for Lies Questions

See the Summoned Monsters sidebar on page 13: Can't help with the first question, though. I'd like to think it's there for people like me who are porting the maps directly into virtual tables like maptool. Not having the traps marked is a great boon.

    Heroic Threats: A D&D Kickstarter

I notice the sample mudman has Resist 5 Untyped damage. I don't think I've seen that before in 4e, although I once homebrewed a monster with resist 5 arcane. Is that sort of resistance 'canon' (ie. has it appeared in a WotC product)? It seems to harken back to old (not to be confused with...

Gears of Revolution: Notes on my campaign

Commentary: This session was the first in which I feel my group really deviated from the script as written. Previous incidents (such as the Duchess' death, Asrabey's escape, and lying to Lya Jierre) could all have long-term implications, but those implications are not yet being felt. They're...
