    Rule of Three 5/9/2011

I must admit that I smiled and thought of Aegeri when reading the third answer.

Hey, Obryn, you know what's worse than quote wars? Quote wars with ALL CAPS, italics, bold and hyperlinks.

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

I'm not an authority on this topic but that does seem contrary to te stated goal of extending the "sweet spot".

    ZEITGEIST player's guide for Zeitgeist?

Nooo! I thought you said the intro pack for Zeitgest would roll out after WotBS #11 was published. /sob. Edit: I probably read more into that than I should have, so let me instead plead for something else to tide us over. It's been a while since the last preview and I'm trying to...

    Insubstantial Minions

Back when the boards were grappling with the ineffectiveness of minions in paragon and epic tiers, I proposed granting minions a saving throw to ignore damage from area attacks, close attacks and non-attacks (such as wall of fire). While I'm not claiming credit, it's interesting to see that...

Legends and Lore / Rule-of-Three Puzzle

I love Joy Ang's version. But then again I always was partial to the Eberron style of illustration.

I need advice for a new Sentinel Druid.

This is exactly the tone I'm talking about. Why do you automatically jump to the conclusion that the other players should tailor their PCs to the OP's choice of powers? 4e works best when the PCs are a team, and it doesn't seem that anyone (either the OP or the wizard's player) is making much...

I need advice for a new Sentinel Druid.

Incorrect, as has already been pointed out upthread. From the compendium: The wizard will be at -2 to hit if he uses ranged powers againt the prone target. To be honest, there seems to be an odd tone to this thread a la "Both powers are good, but take X and screw the 2 other party...

Rule of Three and THEMES! FINALLY THEMES!!!!

Me too. Ranger turned a crit against our dwarf tank into a hit. A -7 penalty to attack can have that effect on vs AC powers. It was in the second session the ranger appeared in. Given the size of the penalty and the dwarf's AC, I actually expect it to happen quite frequently.

    What are themes?

You mean to say that Fighter: One-handed, 2-handed, Battlerager, Tempest and Brawler (is that what's it's called?). Ranger: 2WF, archery, marauder. Wizard: Orb, Wand, Staff, Tome Sorceror: Blade or Staff (to name just 4 classes that sprang to mind) isn't enough of a...

Looking for a Specific Picture from the CB

I agree that it looks more like your Ialdabode than Minsc. The OP believed "this portrait is based off a popular character". I don't think Ialdabode qualifies as a popular character, given that I've never heard of him. I was setting the record straight that, if someone thought the portrait...

How do you make Liches interesting?

If flexibility is what PlaneSailing is looking for, I think non-codification is the only real answer. In other words, you don't come up with the examples I mentioned before play, you come up with them on the fly just as the Lich's initiative comes up. All that the stat block says is something...

Looking for a Specific Picture from the CB

No idea, but if you're on a Windows machine you can 'Alt+Print Screen' (to take a screenshot of the picture above), then open MS Paint, 'Ctrl+V' (to paste), then edit the MS Paint file into a jpeg. Alternatively, if you're using Windows 7, just use the snipping tool to cut and paste from the...

How do you make Liches interesting?

Another option is to abandon the idea of codifying what the lich can and cannot do and 'wing it'. The Chatty DM once blogged about a giant he created that could create multiple effects based on the old page 42 damage expressions (I'm not sure what the appropriate page and book is now or even...

Rule of Three and THEMES! FINALLY THEMES!!!!

I get it. My point is that (assuming you're making the same number of attacks in each example), preventing the first 10 hp means your ally is on 20 hp rather than 10 hp when the last hit lands. Therefore, they're not on 0 hp and they're not unconscious. Hence, in a theoretical one attacker/one...

Rule of Three and THEMES! FINALLY THEMES!!!!

:erm: There is no mathematical difference between saving the first 10 hp and the last 10 hp. For any given number of attacks and given number of hit points, doing either would "prevent them going unconscious". Although talking hp is probably misleading (I started it, I know). We're really...

How do you make Liches interesting?

As with so many questions related to monsters in 4e, I believe the answer is "pick another monster that's more interesting" and refluff it. The Monster Vault Elder Blue Dragon could make a nasty solo artillery if you retype the damage from lightning to necrotic, reflavour the physical attacks...

Rule of Three and THEMES! FINALLY THEMES!!!!

Contrary to everyone else (or so it seems), I like interrupt powers. They're a much more flavourful and cinematic way of shutting down monsters than stun, daze immobilise etc. IMO if they're playing havoc with turn length, then the answer is to simplify them by removing the attack and/or...

    Gloomwrought Looks Good!

You mean Shadowrift at Umbraforge. I haven't played it as-written but I did go through the shadowfell portion of it in an up-levelled campaign (we were level 8 IIRC). I've also reviewed the module and the relevant encounters in my blog (link in my sig), starting with the post for 5 May...
