    Skill Challenges: Bringing the Awesome

Things I have in mind for Skill Challenges: Escaping a burning building. Finding their way out of the Underdark. Escaping prison/captivity. Mine car craziness, (see Temple of Doom). Uncovering clues to find a murderer before he kills again ... that same night. Rescuing the people trapped on a...

    Skill Challenges: Bringing the Awesome

I don't really see Skill Challenges being the default way Traps are handled. When I think Skill Challenge, I'm thinking of stuff like the mine cart scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, with players trying to get a certain number of successes as they hurtle through mine shafts...

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

Thanks. It's all good. I think I'm hysterical, and that sustains me. ;)

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

Class levels can be added to a creature, sure thing, but I don't think it's the norm. As a matter of fact, a lot of what they're trying to do is to remove the NEED for NPCs with as much complexity as PCs. If the guy doesn't need that level of detail, he won't get it, and that's pretty much going...

It's clearly ambiguous, Voss. You dirty little blue pill. edit: Also, as further evidence of the Great Succubus Scandal of 2008, no designer or WotC employee has come in to put the matter to rest, which they easily could do and have done in the past. WHY?!? Because ... <wait for it> ... they...

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

Are we at the stage where we predict whether 4E will die in flames or cure cancer? Ah, cool, I like this part. My omen: I saw FOUR pigeons fly over my car this morning as I was smoking a cigarette and getting ready for work. Only ONE pooped on it, as far as I can tell. I think that the four...

No one has paid the $5000 fee. Things never progressed that far. Unless it all went down this past week, which I find unlikely.

Personally, I don't think it will impact the edition's success, one way or the other. It DOES impact my feelings towards the company. I know you don't feel the same way, which is fine by me, but I really liked the OGL, the idea behind it, and was excited when WotC announced that they were going...

Mine did. It was only a .38 so I just killed him and took his stuff (he had some Pokemon cards) but he could have been dangerous to the average internet jockey like yourself, so I wouldn't make fun. If you haven't killed yours he's probably under your bed or in your closet right now.

You had to bring it up again, didn't you. :p I call it a fiasco because they gave us a date when it would be ready, then missed it. They then told us "soon" for some time, even going so far as to say that they had copy sitting back at the office during posts at the DnDXP. Then more silence...

I agree. The GSL fiasco has been the only real factor keeping me from fully embracing the new edition. But I don't feel like tapping into that fount of bitterness at the moment.

GSL questions for Scott Rouse and Mike Lescault

It might not seem to be much help, but it really, really is. When there's no response, even a "we can't comment yet, sorry" response, it makes us feel like no one is reading, or doesn't care what we're saying. It's like walking into a room with someone, talking, and after a while you turn around...

One thing is for sure: the devils deserve a lot more care when designing their encounters. I wouldn't just throw some devils together without feeling comfortable with the synergy of their tactics because that's half their bang. And a big bang it can be.

    Stat Penalties/Damage?

I absolutely LOVED stat damage ... but hated calculating the effects during a game. Which sucks, IMO, because I still think the idea is awesome. If I ever get a Mentat as a DM helper I'll put them back in a hurry.

It's all good. I've offered The Rouse a million dollars in another thread to clarify the succubus entry for me. Every man has his price and, judging from the pretty-boy haircut The Rouse sports around, he could use the cash. ;)

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

I think Demons are meant to be the traditional big bad menacing avatars of destruction you might be thinking of. They wanted to make Devils different and the niche they've created for them does seem to have a lot of potential for those DMs and players who love good tactical combats. You can...

    My WoTC Interview

I'll pay you one million dollars to clarify my succubus hopes in this thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?p=4164446#post4164446 One. Million. Dollars. I wouldn't post it on the internet if it wasn't true.

I don't know. The more I read the entry: ... the more I'm convinced that Charming Kiss is the name for the FIRST attack. If the Charming Kiss hits, there's a secondary attack that, if it hits, imposes the penalties where the victim interposes himself between incoming attacks. The secondary...
