    congratulations - you made it!

It was as fun a ride this time as when 3rd edition was released. Nothing gets people really talking about everything that makes DnD "DnD" to them than a new edition. The fact that it was all relatively painless is something that the mods here should be proud of.

Amazon got KotS here on release day. . .

No fancy shipping, just the standard usps option, and I got it today too. Which was nice since Amazon's site still tells me that I'll get it on 05/24. Funny it shows the 24th but I got the book on release day. It gives me some hope for my core rulebook sets.

Nicely done! Pure awesome, amigo. Thanks!

    Minions are:

As long as minions are used at an appropriate level there shouldn't be any problem. PCs shouldn't ever encounter a minion that isn't level appropriate. No very high level minions running around the PCs when they are low level. Just minions roughly the same level the PCs are (give or take, of...

D&D 4E Why do weapons have different damage in 4e?

It's a good idea and I, for one, would try out something like that. It makes sense to me. Of course, I've ran campaigns where I've used a houseruled attack system that gave players a "pool" of bonuses to apply to their attack and defense, as they wished, like Rolemaster but with d20 and armor...

    Minions are:

I like minions. They've worked very well during the 4E-Lite games I've ran. They are a credible threat and the kobold minions alone have dropped quite a few pregen characters if the PCs do something silly like let them swarm the wizard or warlock. If there was one thing I'd change it would be...

    Minion Fist Fights

I would have no problem with mammoth minions. I would probably add one or two normal mammoths in there but the PCs skill would be high enough to puncture the eye, sever an artery, or otherwise kill the other mammoths (the minions). I think it could be an appropriate scenario, depending on the...

    KotS Available?

They're just not that Noble, I guess. That's gotta sting the local gaming shops.

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

I agree. I'd also add two things: 1. Players are entitled. To have fun. 2. And the really successful DMs I know are those that take as much, or greater, enjoyment from the players having fun as from the crafting of a shared story. It's not difficult. Just takes a subtle shift in goals and...

    Minion Fist Fights

You're correct, of course. The reflex to argue is difficult to overcome, though. For those who want minions to fall into some sort of simulation-based mold (as in, fit into the world somehow while still using the same stats as he has during combat with a PC, even though there's no reason...

    Minion Fist Fights

Yeah, I've thought of this too. I'm mixing it up when it comes to minion miniatures. More trouble for me, maybe, but worth it.

    Minion Fist Fights

Absolutely. The ones you killed in one hit didn't die because they were weak so much as you landed a more deadly blow. Right past any defenses and into the heart, so to speak. The ones who take longer to kill don't allow you to penetrate their defenses until that final damage roll. So it means...

Need WOTC Offical to deal with the half-elf pregen/Keep of Shadowfell before release.

It's nice that WotC came in to clarify things. Little things like that count. In a fit of good will I even pre-ordered the module, even though I won't run it and will just read it to mine for ideas for the adventure I'm writing myself. I'm sentimental.

    Interesting experience playing KotS

I can't help it. :) I always have to peek. I can't leave well enough alone, which is why I'm the DM I guess.

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

There are probably several ways to do it and I'm not as good with numbers as some people around here. I was just implying down and dirty adjustment as in the difference between what the PCs got and what they should have got. Write that down and subtract, later, from a random parcel.

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

Aria, I would once again suggest that changing the way the rules are written will NOT keep you from saying "no" to players. Why? Because the players are going to ask that you run with the options they want to play under, even if they aren't default. So you would, still, have to say "no". The...

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

Standard houserule since AD&D was that the players would know what an item did or was by the next session, as an arbitrary length of time. We only saved the Identify stuff for very powerful items or artifacts. As a DM, of course, I would always try to sound doubtful when I told the players...

    Daily Art Preview

I would agree. They seem like a decent race to me that I can use. Drow are a bit played out, though always ready to pop back in when you need someone the PCs KNOW is going to be trouble. I already have my first encounter with the shadar-kai and the PCs planned out, with them seeing this strange...

    Cheating?

It's not cheating if you don't get caught. Rule 1 I think. Rule 2: The DM never cheats; he adjusts.
