    Are Rituals Vaporware?

Rituals seem to be the way DMs will control how much divination and crazy movement magic are allowed in his campaign. Since the DM controls which rituals are found, you just make sure which ones are available. I don't see them as a cure to anything, other than some missing spells from a...

Whining on the boards and rule zero

Haha, sorry Voss. I was just being sarcastic, of course. I tend to amuse myself more than anything since I'm not actually funny. But it makes me smile, and that's what counts, right? :)

Whining on the boards and rule zero

I think it's the unnatural attempt to co-exist that's raising tensions around here. Until one side wins completely, that is. I have a friend, for instance, who I have told can't come to my house and who I won't speak to until he admits that 4E is better. He'll either cave in, or he wasn't much...

    D&D 4E Calling all 4e Playtesters in CA / AZ / NV

There are no playtesters. There's just Ari and the huge check that WotC gave him simulate a playtester base.

    Keep on the Shadowfell preview

Is this where we jump on one guy until he spends the next few days typing out answers to every question we can come up with on pain of waterboarding? I got automatic text message that told me this was the place. I heard there would also be punch and pie.

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

Wow, that's exactly what I had planned on doing. I'm glad it worked for you. It gives me hope. :) I'm really going to thumb-tack the bottom of those suckers, though, so they don't move. My table tends to get rowdy. And, Ingolf, that's a great idea about the extra pieces for extra random...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Well, I never whined about it, but I much prefer the 3.0 system to what I'm hearing about the 3.5 system. After reading the article I didn't realize that anything had really changed, but now that I see that 3.5 was different, I suppose I'm pleased that they reverted back. Not that I, personally...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

Well, he'd be using it like a longsword, right? Far too large for him to sneak attack with unless a human sized rogue could also sneak attack with one (not sure on that). It just doesn't seem that strange to me to have the baseline (human sized weapons) and then figure out the size differences...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

I ask again, because I'm honestly curious: what's the difference between a halfling sized longsword and a normal shortsword? Is there any difference?

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

Hmm, putting the tiles in file folders could work. The only problem would be the seemingly large number of little one-square tiles for torches, holes, puddles, and stuff. Maybe one of those hollow clipboards with the needed tiles inside? I really think that I'm going to have to bring exactly...

    Excerpt: Weapons (MERGE)

What's the difference between a halfling sized longsword and a shortsword? I ask because I didn't play 3.5 but didn't have a problem with the 3.0 system, so this doesn't seem that different to me. Isn't a halfling sized longsword basically a shortsword anyway? EDIT: Probably doesn't seem that...

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

I have one of those Chessex mats that lets me draw on it with special pens. I used that for 3E those times we used miniatures (we had PC minis, but monsters were all coins and soda bottle caps, mostly). I did the tile thing this time because they look neat and decided that if I'm going to do it...

Laying out your dungeon - advice?

I've never been big on using miniatures in combat. Even when we actually had some, way back during BECMI and AD&D, we just used them for marching orders. I did use them a bit more during our flirtation with 3E and both liked and disliked certain things. Well, I've decided to take the plunge and...

    I Really Like Keywords

Keywords seem like a really great idea. I like what we've seen so far and I can see a lot of potential. With most things, for me, it's going to be in how it's all implemented. Not that I have long to wait to find out. ;)

    Excerpt: skill challenges

I would suggest we forget the silly Intimidation debate (which really is silly--the Duke is obviously immune to Intimidate because the scenario said so, end of story). Instead, let's look at what Skill Challenges, as they seem to be shaping up, will help us with: Surviving being stranded in the...

    Whence two-weapon fighting?

Multiclassing with Ranger allows you to be considered a "ranger" when it comes to restrictions, right? If you pick up a Rogue multiclass, and you're a Fighter, you can then choose paragon paths that have Rogue and Fighter as requirements, I thought.

    D&D 4E Piracy and 4e

Was piracy a big issue with 3E? I'm sincerely curious since 3E was so unappealing that it drove me away from DnD mainstream and I was completely out of touch. In what way was piracy a factor? Are we talking about pdfs?

    GSL FAQ up

Gaming. It's serious business. ;) I just wanted to say thanks again for the clarification on the GSL. While it may not be as open as before and not as open as some (including me) would like, it is more than enough for me to get the products I want, so for that I am very grateful. The effort to...

    Answers on the GSL!

I'm very happy with the clarification. A product line by product line basis is more than fair and much better than the rumored company wide restriction. That's enough freedom for me to get the products I want made under the GSL so I'm content. I hope the people over at Wizards who fought for...

    GSL FAQ up

Very nicely done, WotC. The issue I was most concerned about--that a company would have to choose one system only--has been addressed. I have to say that I'm very pleased. I bet Clark's happy, too. :)
