    PC or Mac?

I got my very first Macbook Pro about a month ago and the learning curve has been pretty steep. I can barely remember a lick of unix from my college days so the terminal is still very alien to me. That being said, it's really nice to have a system that in 20 seconds from hitting the power...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Another update! And so soon too! Can't wait to find out what held Aravis' soul in place.

Very happy to see an update, with hopefully more to come soon.

Do fantasy and paganism go together, or should they stay separate?

Religion is fantasy and fantasy is religion. It all depends on what you perceive, or believe, the truth to be.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Alter Self question

You could be right, I just always looked at Alter Self as a utility spell. Need an excellent disguise, easy enough. Need wings to fly, done. Need gills to breathe under water, will do. Need claws for digging, no problem.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Alter Self question

Thanks for the response. The spell really got nerfed in 3.5.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Alter Self question

I'm playing my first magic user in a 3.5 campaign and was looking at the Alter Self spell. In 3.0 you could use it to change features (add wings etc), but in 3.5, it looks like you have to pick an alternate form completely (5hd or less), ie. change into a gargoyle. Am I reading that correctly...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I've been reading your story since day one and I figured you weren't that kind of DM. That's what surprised me about the situation. I forgot about the paralyze option of the death attack. I guess that begs the question who hired them. An old enemy, or a new one? I've personally never liked...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I'm really surprised no one was outright killed. Without much effort one can get an assasin's death attack DC into the low 30s.

The most fun character you have ever played/seen

I had a paladin for a one shot by the name of Kayn, he was a lot of fun. It was just fun to run around saying "I am Kayn". He was the spokesperson, healer, and voice of reason for the group. As a bonus, according to the GM and others in the group I did a damn fine job of role playing the paly...

Sagiro's Story Hour Returns (new thread started on 5/18/08)

Do you guys ever reminisce about the days where magic missile was a powerful spell and a good roll on a cure light wounds potion could bring you from the brink of death to full health? No, this is not a shameless bump, how dare you even think such a thing :P

    Campaign Ending Ideas wanted

Let them attempt, and possibly succeed at the rescue. The child will still be born and the BBEG will be looking for the priestess and child non-stop.

    Ethics of Killing POWs

Wait until your mission is complete, then deal with the character, whether that means just confronting them yourself or turning them in or whatever. When you're behind enemy lines, you stick together even if you don't agree with what someone has done.

is this a valid tactic for shutting down a caster

In a game I was in, we used this tactic on a dragon. We still ended up getting wiped out*, but at least it ended up being a close one. *We were all new to 3ed and CR/ECL and got put up against dragon that was way beyond our abilities. Still a lot of fun though.

    OotS 518 is up

I know, but I was just commenting in the respect to character class balance focusing on the immediate comic where pretty much all she was throwing were spells that allowed reflex saves.

    OotS 518 is up

From what I recall reading somewhere she's a mystic thurge. As for the balance issue, if you're a one trick pony, or in this case, all your offensive spells are based on one saving throw type, you're going to run into trouble eventually, core or non-core.

    Scrags aka sea trolls

But whether your under water and holding your breath or standing in a heavy rain, you're only going to get so wet. And that's the thing I'm trying to figure out. The text also says "mostly", not completely or under. If you're 6' tall and in 3'1" of water, that would constitute "mostly". I've...

    Scrags aka sea trolls

That's a little hard with where the PCs are right now. They just resolved an issue where a group of thugs managed to drain a small lake and any surrounding water with an eversoaking sponge. The thugs were selling water to a small hamlet the PCs came upon at absurd prices. I found this in a...

    Scrags aka sea trolls

Yeah, I was toying with this idea about a month ago and then that showed up. I know my players read it so now I'm not sure if I could run with it, aside from the fact that it's really stretching the rules. I understand the whole concept of "immersed", but if you're in a decent rain fall, or...

    Strongarm Bracers and...*sigh* Monkey Grip...

Better have a backup that he could wield normally in case he ever walks into an anti-magic circle. Although that'd be pretty funny.
