    Aid Another Quiz

I've found no part of the rules more prone to table variance than the Aid Another rules. I originally posted this little questionnaire over on this comic, but I'm curious to see how my fellow EN Worlders respond. To that end: Read through the following scenarios. Take a minute to jot down...

D&D 5E (2014) PC Permadeath: Yea or Nay?

Oh hey... I just found the old Chris Perkins article that got me thinking about this. Check out Page 73 over here for "The DM Experience" perspective: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/DM_Experience_2011.pdf

D&D 5E (2014) PC Permadeath: Yea or Nay?

My opinion on the matter lives over here, but I'm curious how the rest of you guys do it. When a PC fails that last saving throw, how do you handle it? Does the player get a say in their resurrection? Do you go strictly by the book? House rule it? How do you like to handle resurrection at your...

Solving the "Let's Rob the Magic Shop" Problem

You make an interesting point. I sometimes wonder how much design time should be spent thinking around the hypothetical That Guys of the world vs. focusing on the other aspects of the game. I guess it's a plugging holes vs. building new boats mentality.

Solving the "Let's Rob the Magic Shop" Problem

Now see, I appreciate this naturalistic kind of solution. It feels less like a challenge to be overcome (read: security, magic traps, etc. which make the robbery feel like a dungeon) than a reason to not do it in the first place.

Solving the "Let's Rob the Magic Shop" Problem

My go-to solution is the epic-level shopkeeper, but I've got to admit it's pretty ham-handed. How else do you keep a gang of wild murderhobos from taking all of a 3rd level commoner's worldly goods and breaking your economy?

D&D 5E (2014) GMs of EN World: What player behavior annoys you the most?

Given my most recent campaign, I would like to add "coming to session with the stomach flu" to the list. :-S

    D&D 5E (2014) Gear-Dependent Classes

What's the thinking there? Group buffs?

    D&D 5E (2014) Gear-Dependent Classes

Do you guys think some classes are more dependent on gear than others? If so, should they get a proportionally larger share of the party's loot?

    Flying Friggin' PCs

Example time? Sure. Imagine Balin's Tomb from Fellowship of the Ring. The place has a fairly high ceiling: https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/004/830/712/large/chris-mcgill-balins-tomb-02.jpg?1486580356 Now imagine if Legolas has boots of flying. If he hugs the ceiling he can...

    Flying Friggin' PCs

The adventure design problems posed by flying PCs have recently cropped up again in one of my games. As such, I wouldn't mind reopening a discussion from an old comic. Ahem: So there you are, running your no-nonsense game of gritty fantasy. Your players are miserable peasants and it’s amazing...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Unlucky Guy

There's a player in our Exalted 2e group who is epicly unlucky. It's a d10 system, so it's all dice pools all day. He actually wound up saving the day for once, casting the deciding spell in difficult encounter. When he went to high five one of the warrior types, the ST (being an especially...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Unlucky Guy

A sort of slapstick themed character perhaps? You could even invent an "expanded botch" feat!

    D&D 5E (2014) The Unlucky Guy

Just remembered why I wrote that comic in the first place. Courtesy of TV Tropes: Born Unlucky: Wil's dice rolls are legendarily terrible, to memetic degrees. It's at a point where Wil has legitimate reason to fear his bad luck rubbing off on those in his immediate vicinity; to quote the man...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Unlucky Guy

Every group has one. The unlucky guy. He can fail any save. Whiff on any attack. Die in single combat against any house cat. So here's the question: What feat of incredible unluck gave your unlucky guy his title?

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters w/ Magic Items?

Out of curiosity, did the dragon wield the great sword is the subsequent rematch? I guess that I'm more concerned for encounter balance than most of this thread. Of course it makes sense for a monster to use the item from a fluff perspective. But an imp with a necklace of fireballs is a load...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters w/ Magic Items?

Do you allow your intelligent monsters to use the treasure they hoard? It seems like you're either mucking about with CR or straining credulity. I mean, why would a dragon sit on a his ring of mind shielding rather than wear it? How do you solve the problem at your table?

What was your best in-game prank?

I've always enjoyed messing with the mundanes as a magic user (case in point). What about the rest of you guys? Did you shave the wizard's beard? Slip someone an inopportune love potion? Put sovereign glue on the toilet seat? Let's hear your tales of high jinks and pranksterism!
