80% Rule: Are you a DM or player

I'm about 50/50 myself. Run a weekly game and play in two online at the moment.

    Obsolete Feats

This is a big part of why I banned expertise out of the box, but I think a bunch of these are now unnamed bonuses last I looked (i.e. Hellfire Blood, Warforged Tactics). Still, with the cleaned up implement rules all the +1/2/3 to two damage type feats can just go die in an (astral) fire...

    Obsolete Feats

Dragon's not really the worst offender anymore, given the shear number of feats obsoleted in essentials (generally by purely superior feats and or those with easier prerequisites). But since it's pretty much purely digital I wouldn't shed a tear if all the worthless stuff therein was either...

Can someone explain to me what 'Christmas Tree effect' means?

The difference between 3E and earlier editions, for what it's worth, is that it let you know it assumed you had this much gear. Earlier editions had no baseline wealth guidelines. 3E added them, so that it could create consistent numbers for things like CR, but did so in a very 3E way (adding...

Upgrading Monsters to Elite - Can Anyone Help?

That's pretty much all your need (or, if you want, make the bite a minor action, Same deal) to make this guy a respectable elite.

    Obsolete Feats

From a performance standpoint, this is really something that needs to be done. Picking feats is absolutely horrid, the option to turn them off entirely (and not include the huge XML that goes back and forth with them) would improve it a lot. There's also a lot of obsolete feats after the...

When did Sneak Attack get upgraded?

Absolutely. My first 4E character was a dagger rogue, and he pretty strayed from my planned build at level 6 to pick up durable since he was usually the guy first out of surges in the party. Working with the defenders is a real key to being a melee rogue. Ideally it's the tough guy who goes...

    List of Broken Powers

The problem with this one is that the wizard can drop it onto a melee, and the monsters eat the initial damage, the start their turn damage, and some AoO damage. And then, maybe, get away (not if there's a fighter involved). Not necessarily broken, but annoying as hell.

    Two Essentials Questions

Heroes of Sword and Spell is supposed to have rules for essentials multiclassing that should deal with the various power swap options. Maybe even hybrid class builds, if we're lucky. This is, naturally, contingent on it still existing.

    Fighting the Undead

Pretty much my point. When I run my game I go out of my way to make sure the same tactics don't always work, and a bit part of that is making sure resistance/immunity/defenses are varied across encounters. My group's run into a lot of radiant vulnerable undead, but they've also seen more resist...

    List of Broken Powers

For what it's worth, Certain Justice is basically a paragon path feature hidden in a power. Not that is can't be overpowering...

When did Sneak Attack get upgraded?

Personally, I'd like to pick up my old rogue I used to play in a group with a warlord. That combo went from 'meh' to 'awesome'.

When did Sneak Attack get upgraded?

When they released the essential thief, they changed it to match the thief's version. Riposte Strike is a whole lot more appealing now.

    DPS Pally

Here's the best I could do, damage wise, with a Cha Paladin at level 7. The strength builds have better access to high [W] powers, but this guy isn't bad. If I were planning on playing him into paragon/epic I'd even out Str and Con a little more for better access to Axe feats. The nice thing...

    Fighting the Undead

Feature not a bug, IMHO. Making an entire popular category of monsters have the same vulnerability encourages people to say stupid things like 'radiant is the best damage type, and necrotic is the worst.'

    Divine Fury Power

Personally, I'd tie it to damage rolls. So area attacks only regain HP once, but multi-attacks with separate damage rolls would potentially give back more.

    DPS Pally

Human Str paladin with a big weapon would be both useful as an off-tank and a really good low-level damage dealer.

    DPS Pally

Wrath of the Gods, likewise, is a 'pesuto striker' power (add a second ability score to damage). Only it affects you and all your allies in a close burst 1. Good stuff.

    Optimizing my Dragonborn Thaneborn Barbarian

I'd say go with 16 Str, 16 Cha, 13 Con, 11 10 8 and take chainmail and scale as your first two feats, if you were eying 18 Cha for the Thaneborn kickers. Dragonborn get a bit of a bonus from Con, if you make it to epic 15 is enough to qualify for some Axe related feats, and your AC will be...
