I'd look at the Midnight races and Bloodlines. The races in Midnight are all about LA +1 versus the standard races (IMO) and the bloodlines there are pretty interesting. You'd have to eyeball some of them for balance, but that would be a decent starting point.

I thought all of the "reduces level added by metamagic" feats had a stipulation that they cannot reduce the level adjustment to less than 1? IDHMBIFM, but I believe that was the case -- specifically to avoid the problems with every spell being Empowered like this.

evilbob -- I'm reasonably sure that all the reserve feats grant you a bonus to caster level, not the DC. It's still worth checking, though.

I'm really enjoying this story hour and the characterization so far. It's dark and somewhat vile, I admit, but it's got such a great feel to it. I'm going to have to keep following this one. :)
