I would think they should lose the current spells they can cast. However the magical residue left over could morph into the ability to cast some divine [good] spells.

One of my players in an old campaign of mine (a paladin) reformed a kobold by strapping him to the front of his sheild while fighting an athac. I had no choice but to let him keep him.
