Yeah, I know? It’s a game with a completely different aesthetic, goals, and thematic assumptions, it using the d20 skills and such is irrelevant to the point. Edit: maybe I misread the tone/purpose of your comment. If so I apologize. It’s early and I lack coffee, so my perceptions may be...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

Love this Fair Good. Love this What abt adding the die to attacks, rather than advantage? Love it Much better than current I prefer the Ranger to be inherently heroic, but if paladins can have oath breakers I guess rangers can have poachers. lol I like the subclass ideas

Meant to reply to this sooner! That’s really cool. I do wish dragoon was used for mounted infantry and light cavalry in D&D though. Like I really want a dragoon ranger that has movement and mixed range combat features that are useful mounted or unmounted.

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

So thinking about @Minigiant ’s ideas and these discussions in general, I’ve got a thing. At level 1 you choose a Primal Order. Each order gives you a spell. you always have it prepared and can cast it x/day without a spell slot. Order of The Mark (per PHB) Get Favored Enemy, add “you can...

The worst thing about Ensaring strike is that it has concentration and a save every round. That’s too much. Anyway yeah make HM 2d6 1/round, and add a d6 for every spell level.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Could be….im at work. Start a thread if you want and I’ll throw some ideas out when I’m free tomorrow. I think that we could make Favored Enemy one of several options with the same weight as FE, and make different subclasses double down on those features. Like the favored spell idea that...

And if they do that, I think they’ll find that the industry fans largely despises that, and they’ll lose more than they save. But yeah…they’ll probably try.

I’m biased by nine generations of my family being buried there, but yeah, it’s really nice.

I get that, and I’m usually all for more classes with specific focus over broader classes. I just think that the Ranger can do what 90% of people want from it…but wotc just keeps doing weird nonsense instead of trying to actually do that. And maybe the solution is for the BM to be even more...

Yeah I don’t get it. You want a mix, right? Like I wanna see more new young people on the D&D team, in large part because the core books were written primarily by two guys who have been making D&D stuff for longer than the youngest lead designer has been alive, so James Wyatt is really all the...

Yeah and if I was gonna live in an expensive part of Cali, it would Goleta where my family is all from. God i miss Goleta…

The 4e Ranger was so bad tbh. I never understood why anyone liked it outside of white room CharOp power gamers. They can, or they can be simple and work with the rest of the design of the class. You just described what I described, using a positive tone instead of a negative one. Sure you...

This is completely irrelevant to my post that you first replied to. Stop using my posts as a stepping stone to get onto your own soapbox.

As much as I hate being in the sun for any longer than absolutely necessary….California really is a beautiful place to live. I’ve never seen anything anywhere that made me want to leave. And it’s nice living in a state with the economy of a major nation, and multiple of the world’s great...

Yeah I imagine this was part of why they left wotc, tbh. I doubt the folks at wotc were unaware of it.

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

Good for you. There are people with the necessary skills at the desirable level within every demographic, new and old. Hiring the same four guys that wrote 3e or whatever instead of promoting brilliant people already on the team is lazy and stifling. So please don’t use my post to wave your...

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

Huh. That is honestly pretty discouraging in terms of caring about D&D going forward. Especially since they are hiring externally for leadership of the D&D team instead of promoting. If they hire old dudes that have already put their stamp on D&D to lead the team, and/or lay off the few...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

If my wife ends up still unhappy with her rangers after using 2024 for a couple levels, we might look at that Ranger or build one ourselves. Even then it felt wrong until we got primal utility powers for the class. Weird word choice then. Tools. The Ranger using tools doesn’t interfere with...

And people forget that Jeremy has written indie RPGs in the past. At least one (Blue Rose) but I think there others he worked on? Either way, I doubt they are married to traditional gaming, so I think we can expect to be surprised by what they do now.

Kinda like how the warlock can be a melee frontline, back line blaster, controller/trickster, utility and support, pet caster, or an unholy combination of those things.
