D&D 5E (2024) What Should a Psion Be Able To Do?

I want to do the things these characters do: Firestarter (create and control fire, including immunity to fire eventually) Professor X (telepathy, empathy, I’d prefer mind control be considered inherently monstrous and evil but I know that isn’t gonna happen so it’s in too, illusions by way of...

D&D 5E (2024) Psionics: What Do You Want?

Star Wars Saga Edition Force Powers (but 5e style spontaneous casting, not the ‘you choose Move Object 2 times so you can use it 2 times’ paradigm) combined with perhaps 3-5 psionic skills, and invocation style Talents, on a class framework that is a mix of the warlock and monk. So you spend...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

I mean this is why I always chuckle at the notion that in a world based on the rules, casters would rule. Like lol in a world where wizards can cast Charm Person and Dominate Person? Really? Nah. It would be legal to kill spellcasters in most places, before they would rule anything.

    D&D 5E (2024) Psion Class: Green/Yellow/Red?

One of the only archetypes I want to play as a psion that isn’t already a subclass is the guy who makes constructs of psionic energy, like a bow or a sword and shield, and fights with them. Throwing stuff is cool, but damn come on let me just shoot psionic energy bolts.

    Video Games You Wish Existed

It’s still active, FWIW. And still fairly fun if you have a few friends to play it with. They put Sharn in the game a few years ago, and they keep updating it with new content. Neverwinter is a decent MMO, but it’s not really similar to NWN.

    Video Games You Wish Existed

Imagine Soul Caliber, but an open world MMO with contained linear stories for each Origin (character), where the fighting is literally just Soul Caliber fighting mechanics, and you can earn rewards by taking on the role of minions of Nightmare and try to kill heroes in PVP.

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Yeah totally all that nostalgia in the…Hit Point Dice, Weapon Masteries, D20 Tests, Emanations, Sleep being a saving throw vs unconscious, Orcs, Goliaths, and Aasimar, as PHB species, races being called Species, Wizards having multiple healing spells, not to mention all the subclasses that were...

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Yep. Magical Captain subclasses could be things like teleporting defender/controller type with support teleports as well, and an elementalist that adds elemental effects to ally actions with a 10+ ft emanation.

D&D General Homebrew Witch Class ideas +

Yeah thematically the spirits bard is closer to a witch than the 5e warlock, IMO. Of course, the 5e bard base class isn’t related to anything except the D&D 3e And later Bard, so…eh. It’s more rogue than bard. /tangent

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

Like the Chef feat means human professional Chefs are more common than in history, and human soliders and sailors and knights are heartier as a result of the fortifying properties of well crafted food. Okay. Not exactly world breaking. And again, there is no consistent rationale to all wood...

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

Humans can kill with sharpened sticks but we still improve our weaponry as frequently as possible. And only two types of Goliaths have extra damage. But even for those two, a sword is still vastly better than a rock. The majority will have utility cantrips. Prestidigitation is unthinkably more...

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

I despise the notion of PCs being completely different types of creatures from their kin, which this POV necessitates. If all dwarf “heroes” have stonecunning, but not all dwarves in general, is “heroism” a genetic trait? Are all PCs mutants or chosen ones blessed by the gods with weirdly...

D&D 5E (2014) Feedback on a Feat for Blind PCs -- Sightless Warrior

Fair, but not being able to see anything or perceive as if seeing past 30ft is already a huge restriction. No reason they wouldn’t know where a bee is within their heightened hearing and smell range.

D&D 5E (2014) Feedback on a Feat for Blind PCs -- Sightless Warrior

The scaling is too much, but before that point I like it. Also the scaling is odd. Why do they need to be touching the same surface, if they are using hearing to perceive their surroundings?

D&D General Eastern Dragons in 5e

In my game, Crossroads, dragons are either mortal, and more like… more diverse Pern dragons that can take humanoid shape, or they’re immortal and like lung in essence. Evil greater dragons are rare, but terrifying like fallen angels. All dragons are tied to the world, and reflect it in some...

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

I’ve little desire to play any of the new variants, and I refuse to run them as giant descended, just as I refuse to run Dragonborn that way. They’re both independent species. But I have no issue with running Goliaths of all types as simply a species with many presentations due to a primordial...

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

30ft teleport twice a day? You still need stairs and doors. Maybe higher walls in defensive architecture. Not much else.

Both have great ideas! Thanks. I’ll poke at the idea more next few days.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

The original D&D Ranger was a warrior, not a subclass of anything much less the thief. What are you on about? Ranger has never been a rogue subclass that I can recall, in anything but video games.

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

Lol people who dislike meatgrinder CharGen don’t need to be in control all the time, or we wouldn’t be playing TTRPGs in the first place. See and that is what I want more than any specific mechanics. I want a well made “old school dungeon crawler” using relatively simple and rational mechanics.
