D&D 5E (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

It’s not that powerful. It’s literally gonna be multiple bonus actions, concentration, and a spell slot for 2-4 d6s of extra damage over the course of a fight. My group stopped using it altogether in the old rules. The 2024 Ranger relies on it as a cornerstone feature. A cornerstone feature...

D&D 5E (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

I think that you could increase the damage die size, since it can’t switch targets. Or give a juicier secondary benefit like crit on 19 or even just “know all resistences immunities and vulnerabilities” for HM, and Hex could also deals damage when the target fails a saving throw.

What do you, personally, need a system to do for you?

Yes. But it should use the basic task resolution that the rest of the game uses. IMO D&D also Needs a defend and counter system both for weapon attacks and for spells. I partly fixed that in my own system by making players roll for defense and enemies just determine how many dice of damage...

What do you, personally, need a system to do for you?

I need the task resolution mechanic to be the cornerstone of the game, and to be the same mechanic for all task resolution. I need the rules to be clear and transparent enough that everyone at the table knows what a given task resolution means or how powerful a given effect is (assuming...

    D&D General A D&D Swashbuckler Class

Things I’d want from a swashbuckler class; Speed comparable to the rogue and monk Very good with rapiers, scimitars, short swords, and daggers, as well as with bows and crossbows. A taunting feature like a 4e Mark or like Compelled Duel. Expertise Mid to high level ability to add Cha...

    D&D General A D&D Swashbuckler Class

Is it? Dex and charisma, athletic skirmishing combatants with light (primarily melee) weaponry, using their charm as a weapon in combat alongside their skill at arms… I mean…the only real difference between Will from Pirates and D’Artagnan is place and morality. The primary cast could all be...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

Oh, and the Slayer gets multiple damage boosts from preparing and angling for the perfect shot. Extra damage when hitting a surprised target, extra damage when attacking with advantage and even more if hidden, eventual advantage on all attacks against marked target and crit range increased, plus...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

Okay okay so I have a complete build, and I think it’s solid. It’s a Focus Pointa based half-caster with mostly Ranger spells but some pulled from other lists and some Ranger spells left out. It’s got “strategies” that you choose from a list and get more of as you level, and “moves” that are...

    Spider-Man: Noir

I love Spider-Man Noir, and I love Nick Cage. This is very exciting.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

And each would be even if the others were completely different in style. I do wish that the warforged looked more like wood and stone beings in armor than like robots, but I like them being sleeker and more…aesthetically not hideous. Noir and Pulp fantasy should have Art Deco or Art Nouveau...

Dungeons & Dragons Announces Horror Subclasses Unearthed Arcana

The angel? Seems like they have a certain tragedy, overbearing nature, a story that could easily repeat itself forever in a horrifyingly tragic manner, etc. But it’s been a while since I read up on the plane so I could be way off.

Your most "visceral" experience at a movie theater.

Recently I and my wife had very visceral reactions to Sinners. One of the best films I’ve ever seen. Every beat hits just right, but everyone who has seen it knows what moments hits deepest, and it involves lots of people dancing while a main character performs. I cried a little. It was just...

D&D General Ranger as Nature Assassin?

So for Ranger-esque things. I named the tool feature “Hunter’s Strategies”, and added two options that suit the Ranger. -Voice of The Wild Hunt gives you Animal Handling rather than a tool, and you can communicate on a basic level with animals, and you always have find familiar prepared. You...

D&D General Ranger as Nature Assassin?

Agreed. I think that I’m gonna work on simplifying the tools and making sure that everything isn’t any more complex than say, Paladin, through level 3. Paladin has Fighting style, spellcasting, weapon mastery, channel divinity, divine smite, lay on hands, subclass. I think a little hunting...

D&D General Ranger as Nature Assassin?

    That is the case, yeah.

The tool kit is a keystone, for me.

Okay, well if the basic goals of the thread aren’t your jam, fair enough.

D&D General Ranger as Nature Assassin?

@Zardnaar I think that the Poisoner’s Kit tool choice could give the ability to make the Mark deal Poison with a con save vs poisoned condition. Just that and easy poison crafting should do nicely. Thoughts?

D&D 5E (2024) Potential other "rules expansion" books

Ooooo Feywild guide, and a Shadowfell guide, would absolutely make me thrilled. I’d also go nuts for a bigger book with a few options and a chapter of lore/campaign for several different settings, along with a more in depth guide for world building and campaign building, but the Feywild and...
