D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

Not really. Not having extra attack is one less attack, whether you are dual wielding or not. Dual Weilding, sneak attack, smite, and actually good spells (smite is still a trash use of a slot outside of crits), make up the difference just fine.

The split character just has to rely more on spell slots and such, but they work just fine. In my extensive experience playing such characters.

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

Agreed. Sure. I prefer at least 2 levels of both classes, but level 1 rogue is just generally really nice.

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

I think that rogue/paladin or straight paladin or rogue/monk are the best ways to go, since warlock just doesn’t have a patron that fits that is fun (imo celestial is boring). I wish monk or rogue had a divine subclass though.

I often choose other spells even at lower levels because the Ranger has too many concentration spells. Tbh Ensaring strike shouldn’t be concentration. But yeah I don’t use HM that much on an archer ranger, especially past level 5. Which makes the core feature kinda suck but oh well.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

cool. What’s the problem? From experience, bloodied regen features usually explicitly say something like “up to half your hp total” in the wording. Eg, “When you are Bloodied, you gain regen 2 until you reach half your hp total, at which point the effect ends.” Or something like that. or a...

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

I mean, how often are you marking a target? I don’t even use HM against a horde unless I still have it up since earlier in the day, and against a boss the Ranger focuses on the boss. Gloomstalker is still super fun and flavorful.

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

I think “I don’t like the cleric class and don’t want to play it” is pretty simple and easy to understand, personally.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

While I agree with having a rules cyclopedia, and never opened a PHB once I had the essentials one in 4e, the 2024 core books do a vastly better job of being good for both reference and for noob-teaching than some folks would apperently have you believe. Nah. Keywords make reference easier...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5e 2024 Monk Handbook

Yeah the only build I would MC Beastmaster is an archer with a beast of the air. But still, even then I want Ranger to be my main class in such a build, because I want the pet doing its swoop-attack-swoop-get cover routine and giving me advantage with the help action every turn, rather than one...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

If you don’t need that, great. Many new players have a much easier time learning the rules when it does tell them those things rather than leaving it unsaid. Many experienced players find the reminder useful, or simply use keywords in rules as a way to more quickly scan and understand...

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

Beastmaster I actually really like. The bonus action attack doesn’t bother me since I’m either TWF with Nick or I’m using a bow so my only BA feature I use all the time is hunters mark. I really like an archer with beast of the air, from level 7 on. I still think that they should have given...

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

Oh I love the 2014 monk too. One of my favorite characters is a Shadar-Kai Monk in Eberron and I’ve played him since 4e and loved playing every version of him. But man the new one just cooks. If only the new Ranger was as fun. Even if it was just more prepared spells for more versatility, or...

D&D 5E (2024) Avenger of The Silver Flame build

I only smite on crits on when I think it will really make a big difference, when I play paladins, so not as many things want my BA. Full weed-wacker mode does needs a couple rounds to build up to between DF, Shadowblade or Hunter’s Mark, Oath of Emnity, and then TWF, but you rarely blow your...

D&D General Eberron: Mark of Death

She is set up to be a major BBEG that could be redeemed in my campaign. It will ultimately be up to how the PCs engage with her once they really have her attention, which is about to happen. The ultimate final boss is a mythic red dragon, who is conspiring with the Emerald Claw, Delkyr...

D&D General Eberron: Mark of Death

I actually ended up going in a different direction because of something else Keith wrote, oddly enough. In his article on Queen Etrigani of Karrnath, Keith posits that she might have the Mark of Death, in which case it gives her a facility with spirits and with insight, and thus with...

House of Dragons vs. Rings of Power (and a touch of Wheel of Time)

That doesn’t follow. The fact that one show took a dump on the story it was adapting in the first episode and thus proved that it doesn’t get the story has no relationship of any kind to any other show’s first episode. 🤷‍♂️
