    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Quick answer: My original draft stated that "multiple doses of the same poison do not stack" and I'm content with that as is. While I could add complexity by having the 1 minute duration reset with each dose I'm content to leave that undefined in the rules. If a DM wants to be ruthless...

What are the Realistic Limitations of the OGL?

FYI, in practice, they are more generous than that stating: Product Identity: The following items are hereby identified as Product Identity, as defined in the Open Game License version 1.0a, Section 1(e), and are not Open Content: All trademarks, registered trademarks, proper names...

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Thanks for the math. This feels about right to me. Arsenic may be relatively weak, but it is still a poison and should be potentially deadly. :AMN:

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

It's only my opinion, of course, but I think that adds too much complexity to the design for little gain. If you go back to my original post you'll recall I'm looking to make things easier to do and remember. The DM should not have to remember how long the poison has been in effect. More...

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Also good points. How about this: If a victim is able to endure the effects of the poison for a full minute then the effects cease. Saving throws work differently than normal in my game so a Heal skill check can't substitute for a saving throw. But I think it'd be fine to do that.

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

These are fair points, if a bit exaggerated. How about this as a softer version: Poison can be treated with magic (e.g., a neutralize poison spell) or with the Heal skill. Treating someone with the Heal skill is a standard action that draws an attack of opportunity. If you are treating...

What are the Realistic Limitations of the OGL?

I suppose this is at the heart of it. Paizo has to count on the strong customer loyalty that they have to prevent this. It just seemed like there might be legal angles other than copyright that could be applied.

What are the Realistic Limitations of the OGL?

So, according to the OGL, I can freely copy and distribute material that is under that license. So, what happens if, for example, I take the Pathfinder ruleset (or any other OGL game) , copy all of the text into a document and resell that document as the "Wayfinder" rule system? (Important...

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Thanks everyone, particularly Kerrick and Ahnehnois, for your suggestions. Here's what I came up with: Poisons All poisons have a primary and secondary effect. For example: Arsenic Ingested; Heal DC 13 Primary effect: 1 Constitution damage Secondary effect: 1d4 Constitution damage Once...

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Would you be willing to post more of the details of your approach? Perhaps a per-round effect instead of a per-minute effect is an appropriate compromise.

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

Having been a DM for 25+ years who has little trouble finding players I fervently disagree with this. ;) Also, I've forgotten this as often as a player as as a DM. Also, I've heard this complaint about poisons from several others. It's not just me. You suggestion, better organization, could...

    Enlightened Grognard: Poisons

So, I'm considering the mechanics for poison in D&D 3.5. The current approach requires that players remember the secondary effects that kick in a minute later and, in my experience, this is often forgotten. The 4e approach of just making poison another type of damage seems weak to me and...

    Freeform Spellcasting

I'm using True Sorcery right now. In particular, I'm using the revised Arcanist for Iron Heroes. My assessment is that while it's cool, actually using it is a chore. There are simply too many options and I have to work way to hard to make my turn in a combat not take too long. I ended up...

    Spoiler free Adventure Path recommendations?

Y'know, people _say_ they want sandbox but, IMO, the vast majority of them really don't. I've rarely heard about sandbox campaigns that work and never for a term longer than a year or so. I think players just want a linear story that feels sandboxy but really isn't. Pathfinder APs reliably...

    Spoiler free Adventure Path recommendations?

The fact that you're saying this tells me exactly where you are in the story right now. Don't worry, it will come together for you. Captain Endrin (sp?) has more of a role to play in the story than just this one plot hook. The "mix things up" means that you'll get more unique encounters and...

    Spoiler free Adventure Path recommendations?

I own all the Adventure Path books and have read them all *except* Crimson Throne which a friend of mine is currently running for us. So, I have played Crimson Throne. I've also DMed Legacy of Fire (see below). I want to preface by saying that _all_ of these APs are good and I'd be happy to...

    The Trouble with Divinations

I've heard complaints in the past that the D&D 3.5 divination spells can ruin a campaign (or at least an adventure). While I certainly agree that detect evil and detect magic can spoil surprises are there other instances where a divination spell other than those two has harmed the story...or at...

Hybrid D&D: Combining editions (especially 3E and 4E)

I plan to make it available when I've got a complete draft. I've invested well over 100 hours so far and probably have 50-100 or so to go before I've got a complete draft. At that point I'll be looking for playtesters so I'll probably drop a post on EnWorld and see if anyone is interested. :AMN:

Hybrid D&D: Combining editions (especially 3E and 4E)

With respect to Lanefan's wish list here's where I stand: Done. I'm particularly pleased with my approach to this. Done. I left it in with a warning not to use it. Too many people like this. Done but my solution isn't what you proposed. I think this is throwing out the baby with the...
