What's your preference if I run a GenCon game?

Mouse Guard is Sunday; Song of Ice and Fire is Saturday. I plan on taking a nap behind the sofa halfway through Piratecat's game and then running off the play with someone much cooler. It's only fair :p

What's your preference if I run a GenCon game?

Saturday, 2-5:30 please. (I'm running a game until 2, but will arrange a TPK in the final encounter if it looks like I'll run long.) Also, I realize I'm kind of obligated to work a shift in the ENnies booth anyway, so it's not really 'volunteering' but I'm counting it. So there.

ENnies: should "Best Free Product" include Quick-starts?

Well, I do hear 'duh-dummmm' everytime I read the title.

Flying to GenCon? There's a new airport...

Thanks for the info! Just made my reservation today; looks like I'll have a lot of time to kill Monday. But hey, it was free!

    Quickstart Rules

Green Ronin's Song of Ice and Fire has quickstart rules, and I'm rather fond of the system. Also, Hunter: The Vigil

ENnies: should "Best Free Product" include Quick-starts?

Thing is, there aren't enough of them in a given year to justify their own category. Less than 10 or so and the category gets dropped or combined with something else, so they'd likely get grouped into Free Product anyway or not evaluated at all.

ENnies: should "Best Free Product" include Quick-starts?

I completely disagree. First of all, you're making a your own value judgement as to what the 'best' is. It's true that there might be something out there better, but the same is true for commercial RPGs. If it's not nominated, it's not eligible, and the barrier for entry is remarkably low...

    [Friday 10-2] MIA (Dread) (Full)

Excellent. I'll be PMing / emailing the questionaires around the 1st of August, so keep an eye out.

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

One pitfall I've noticed with scenarios that are fantastic in nature is that the players will spend a lot of time and effort just trying to figure out how the world works. Unlike a traditional RPG, where the rules have pretty well defined the 'game physics' and there's likely established...

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

No advice specific to that scenario, sorry. So far I've run Dread 6 or 7 times (two different scenarios of my own creation). But, in general, the best piece of advice I can offer is 'stay flexible'. The players in my games will come up with stuff I never anticipated, and had I stuck to my...

Presenting the nominees for the 2009 ENnie Awards

For the record, JediSoth is Hans, the ENnies submissions coordinator who busts his ass to keep the judges straight. Jeramy, the blogging judge in question, is Master of the Game.

ENnies: should "Best Free Product" include Quick-starts?

To play Devil's advocate, should there be a 'Best Free Product' at all? I mean, if it's good, it should be able to compete in some of the categories with the so-called 'major corporations'. Sure, it might not be able to compete in 'Production Values', which pretty much does require some major...

Presenting the nominees for the 2009 ENnie Awards

I think it was pretty much the general consensus from way back this year that unless we absolutely couldn't agree on 5, there'd be no honorbale mentions. I'd still like to see each judge get a 'Judge's Award' to highlight the product they really liked that maybe no one else did.

    [Friday 10-2] MIA (Dread) (Full)

Yes. No. I don't know. :D Yes, it's open to anybody. No, you don't need a ticket, this is one of several unofficial games that ENWorlders run for other ENWorlders. We'll figure out where we'll actually play the day of the game; usually in the open gaming area of the Embassy Suites (where...

Presenting the nominees for the 2009 ENnie Awards

Congratulations to all the nominees, and good luck in the voting. It was an honor and pleasure to serve as an ENnies judge this year, and I appreciate the outstanding work the publishers, podcasters, bloggers and webmasters have done. It was a herculean task, and narrowing down the field to...
