    D&D 5E (2014) Question: Arcane Focus

The quarterstaff listed under weapons has a price of 2sp, while the staff that's an arcane focus has a price of 5gp. They aren't the same thing. On p. 48 it says an arcane focus staff is "specially constructed," which would explain the difference in price. Whether or not you can use an arcane...

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

I'd like to know how animate dead works now.

D&D 5E (2014) I can haz WILD MAGE and the first DRAGONBORN art?

I think the wild mage is alot of fun, and I'm glad to see it in the new edition. However, I don't think a 1st level character should be able to accidentally set off 3rd level spells. Most of the effects on the wild surge table are just as significant at 20th level as at 1st. However, the wild...

    D&D 5E (2014) It's the Sorcerer!

This looks really cool. I think they've done a pretty good job distinguishing between the sorcerer, warlock and wizard, both in fluff and mechanics. I also like this art much better than the trick-or-treat warlock.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Warlock

I agree that the whole patron thing could be problematic as written. It raises quite a few questions. Do warlocks have to obey their patrons? Is there any consequence for turning against them? Can the patron take the warlock's powers away? Can the warlock continue to gain levels in the warlock...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Magic

If a splat book introduces spells that defy the core system, that isn't the core system's fault. But I doubt very much that we're ever going to see a return of (lvl x d6) type spells, at least in any book published by WotC. Concentration may be different. There could be balanced ways of allowing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

I'm disappointed that the 4e tiefling is the only option. I much prefer the older tieflings that could be descended from either devils or demons and that didn't have ridiculously large horns and tails.

    D&D 5E (2014) so, mountain dwarf wizards...

I'm actually a bit surprised that people have overlooked the hill dwarf. Those extra HPs are every bit as valuable as medium armor, IMO. A hill dwarf that raises his Con up to 20 can have +6 HPs/level, which is amazing for a wizard.

D&D 5E (2014) My New Players Have Quit 5th Edition

You haven't been "denied" anything. The basic rules are just that. They don't include any of the optional variants that are going to be in the DMG. Besides, how can a game company "deny" you the ability to do anything? If you want to give your players more HPs at 1st level, you don't need their...

    D&D 5E (2014) A few of the drow abilities.

Out of curiosity, where did you hear this?

D&D 5E (2014) what is your favourite spell in 5th edition so far?

Meteor Swarm. It's actually worthy of being a 9th level spell now.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations on the Monsters in the Starter Set.

They do? I don't recall seeing anything about zombies spreading disease in their rules. Even if zombies can carry disease, I don't see why skeletons would. They're just bones. Plenty of people use bones as tools, decorations, etc. and don't get plagues from them, as far as I know. The way I...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations on the Monsters in the Starter Set.

Yes, and I'm one of those people. Animating a corpse is a far less morally questionable act than dominating someone, stripping them of their free will, melting their face off with acid arrows, turning people permanently into farm animals, or summoning and enslaving innocent elemental or other...

D&D 5E (2014) How will the Forgotten Realms be handled?

There's going to be another apocalypse called the Sundering that's supposed to end up making the FR more like how it was before 4e.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E's versatile spellcasting

You seem to be concerned that casters are overpowered now. Let me assure you, that isn't the case. Casters have gained much, but they've lost much more. They get far, far fewer spells per day now, especially at higher levels. Casters can also only prepare (level + ability mod) spells at a time...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E's versatile spellcasting

The new casting mechanics are one of my favorite things about the new edition. Not only do they make playing a caster more fun, IMO, they also make them much more balanced with non-casters.

D&D 5E (2014) Str, Int and Cha Saves

Yes. I think Strength saving throws should have been used to resist being restrained, knockdown and forced movement effects, like thunderwave or gust of wind.

D&D 5E (2014) Str, Int and Cha Saves

One of the things I liked about 5e (in theory) was using the six abilities for saving throws. I think it was a good idea. Unfortunately, the implementation of this has been less than stellar, to put it kindly. I haven't even been able to find a use for Str, Int and Cha saves. Yet, there are...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e is dead to me! Almost, TWF issue..

The TWF rules are one of the few things I dislike about this edition. They exclude perfectly reasonable combinations, like the one mentioned above. As a house rule, I will allow any one-handed weapon to be used with TWF, at the cost of a -2 penalty on attack rolls if the weapon isn't light.
