    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

I was talking about the spells at their base spell levels, but yes, that is a big advantage, and that's why hold person is well worth preparing at higher levels. If you encounter humanoids, it can give you a decisive advantage. If not, oh well, it's just one of your dozen or so prepared spells...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

So what? How many short rests do you expect a party to take every day? Unless the party takes quite a few short rests every day, a wizard is going to have many more daily spells than a fighter has action surges in a day. Obviously, it's not worth using a save-or-suck spell on a pitifully weak...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

A fighter could use action surge to get extra attack(s) and then miss, wasting that expendable resource. That's not very different from casting hold person and the monster succeeding on its saving throw. Besides, just because something is an expendable resource doesn't mean that it should never...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

Should fighters complain because they don't always hit with their attacks?

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

Wizards have always been my favorite class, and I love the 5e wizard. It may seem like wizards were severely weakened since 3e, but you have to look at the big picture. Wizards have also made a lot of gains, such as at-will cantrips (including attack cantrips that actually deal decent damage)...

D&D 5E (2014) Mordenkainen's Sword is Limp and Made of Tinfoil

Indeed. Spiritual Weapon, which is basically the same thing as MS but a level 2 spell, doesn't require concentration.

D&D 5E (2014) Mordenkainen's Sword is Limp and Made of Tinfoil

Mordenkainen really should retire and leave the spell design to the pros. :p

    D&D 5E (2014) I think a cantrip somewhat cripples the CR 16 marilith

I don't see a problem with shocking grasp doing this. There are far worse things the caster could have done to the creature with his action, and many of those don't require the caster to get within melee range of the monster, which, especially in this case, is a very bad idea.

D&D 5E (2014) What classes getting used at your table?

My current group has a fighter, ranger, rogue, warlock and wizard.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

I think spare the dying is fine. A healing kit can do the same thing, but it costs money and has limited uses. Spare the dying can be cast at-will and doesn't cost money. A cleric with medicine can eventually do the same thing, but that costs a skill. I'd much rather give up a cantrip slot than...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell Durations

I haven't seen any rule that suggests that a non-concentration spell expires if the caster falls unconscious.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that ray of enfeeblement is underpowered for its level. However, it could be effective when used together with blindness/deafness (which doesn't require concentration). A monster that's both blinded and enfeebled is pretty screwed.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

The Stinkers: True Strike: In the middle of combat, it just isn't worth skipping a turn so that you'll get advantage on your next one. Out of combat, it's only useful if you have time to prepare and can spring into action right after you cast it (such as when you ambush someone). The thing is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally Got my MM!

My Monster Manual finally arrived! I must say, it's a beautiful book. Most of the art is really good. I really like the presentation, and I LOVE the stat blocks. They are really easy to read and use. This makes being a DM seem so much more appealing to me. I actually look at the higher level...

    D&D 5E (2014) Prestige classes in Next?

I think that prestige classes would be better replaced by feats, like the arcane archer feat in the playtest. Most prestige classes were only slight variants on normal classes, with just two or three unique features (if that). They could just take those special features and make them a feat instead.

D&D 3.x What spells got the greatest buff from 3e to 5e?

The only spells that scale automatically at higher levels are cantrips. For all other spells, the only way to get greater effect is to cast them using a higher level spell slot. (Just to be clear, I have absolutely no problem with this, I was only bringing it up for comparison).

    D&D 5E (2014) Undead, how charming...

    Unconscious is a condition (see p. 292).

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Evocation Specialist what spells to have at lvl 3?

Blindness/deafness is a good 2nd level spell, since it doesn't require concentration.

What's even more funny is an exhausted skeleton. Poor things get overworked.

    D&D 5E (2014) Undead, how charming...

Not all undead are immune to charm. Some are, such as banshees and ghosts.
