    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition has broken Bounded Accuracy

I like this. I'd say for double the weapon dice (so 4d6 with a two-handed sword). That's at most +7, a bit better if crits double it again. Might help some champion corner-case out too much, but frankly "makes champion too good" is something I'm willing to risk. Drops the damage enough...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e--combats are too "same-y"?

Thanks all for the thoughts. I believe I've reached the same conclusions largely--just keep things interesting in combat with good descriptions and focus on the roleplaying. The game I'm playing in has a great DM who does a good job with that 90% of the time. It just takes more work as a DM...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e--combats are too "same-y"?

I've been playing one game and running another. Both parties are quite martial in nature (barbarian, ranger, fighter, warlock and barbarian, rogue, warlock, monk) and I'm finding that the fights seem to fall into a pretty standard pattern. Most have been a lot of fun, but at some point...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eldritch Knight variants

I wanted to do the same thing, but found the EK's powers to not mesh very well with the spells or theme. So I wrote up a full archetype. I will note, that cleric spells are, on the whole, weaker than wizard (or EK) spells and so they should probably get something else. Plus it's fun to use...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fighter Weapon Choice

I generally go mechanical and then as needed discuss with the DM on flavor. So my rapier wielding fighter is "really" using a cutlass because it fits the game's theme (and character idea) a bit better.

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling the number of off-hand attacks?

Agreed. Forgot about that. Interesting. So starting at level 11 the TWF is down about 2.5 potential damage and one point of AC and is spending a bonus action to get there. Each has the same attack bonus. The few advantages are, well, a regular extra attack which is darn useful when...

    April's D&D Feedback Survey Results

I can see your point, but I don't consider it any more (or less) of a sandbox than B2. It's a bunch of stuff waiting for them with what they did in previous steps not playing a huge role in things. Again, I see your point, but to me PotA isn't really a sandbox as much as a set of dungeons...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling the number of off-hand attacks?

I've fixed the math on great weapon fighting and added in one feat just to show it can be good. Now that's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but it is something an 11th level two-weapon fighter will have. In any case, at 11th level the two-weapon fighter is still doing just fine. AND...

    April's D&D Feedback Survey Results

On the sandbox thing: I prefer sandbox adventures. But by that I mean things like Kingmaker. Very different than a regional guide. There are a lot of things going on, but the players have huge choices and the "bad guys" aren't just sitting around waiting for them. I feel Princes of the A...

Rodney Thompson Leaves Wizards of the Coast

Shame, nice guy. Learned a fair bit out 5e and gamemastering in general playing a game with him. The above makes me suspect he's leaving the game industry. That would be a shame.

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

Yeah, I spent some time trying to figure out how to phrase it. Apparently I choose poorly and pissed people off. I wanted to discuss things that A) a lot of people feel need fixing and B) that would be candidates for actual fixing by WotC. I think that's a reasonable thing to want to discuss...

D&D 5E (2014) House Rules That Make The Game Better

    ooh. I like that one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

Agree with the +2 archery bonus. However, warlocks have items that help with EB too. And pushing back 10' on every single attack is huge (if both sides are maxing their ranged at will). And a warlock can do this naked where the fighter is useless at range (and in general) without a weapon...

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

It is really rough. Much more than damage which is weird. I think I'd prefer damage take longer to recover from, but I get the "don't need a healer" thing they are shooting for and I rather like it. I've seen this argument, but I feel the alt. human is stronger most of the time. Even for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

First of all, I'm not certain that range over 90' comes up all that often in most games. But yes, the warlock is doing about the same damage as the martial warriors that are specialized in range combat. At level 11 a warlock will be doing 3d10+3d6+15 damage (36 points). A fighter with 3...

    D&D 5E (2014) Things that "need" errata

What do people feel need errata in the 5e game? Generally things that are over powered, under powered or just hugely unclear as written. I'd go with: Stealth rules -- just too unclear. Durable feat -- far too weak (best case, gives you plus 1 average more on a hit die--healer feat is much...

    D&D 5E (2014) How does surprise work?

That was really helpful. A few questions. Why couldn't D wack the ranger as he went by? I'd say he's no longer hidden as soon as he moves out from cover and so D could react to him. Yours is a reasonable ruling, but I'm not seeing it as a RAW ruling. Given how much better than I you seem to...

    D&D 5E (2014) How does surprise work?

I feel like there was a thread on this earlier, but I can't find it. A few questions The rules for suprise are odd in that it sounds like if there exists even one person you don't notice, you can't act in the suprise round. Am I reading that right? Seems dumb (have one party member that...
