D&D 5E (2014) Convince me to keep reading Princes of the Apocalypse (*significant* spoilers. Also my players keep out)

Cool, what about that do you consider a feature and why? I'd love to take advantage of the issues rather than have to work around them.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me to keep reading Princes of the Apocalypse (*significant* spoilers. Also my players keep out)

I just felt that a new module should, ideally, not suffer from the problems that have been plaguing D&D for years and which other APs have managed to address. I certainly didn't expect to see these problems in an AP that was so well received.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me to keep reading Princes of the Apocalypse (*significant* spoilers. Also my players keep out)

Oh, I agree. It's just the the long-form modules I've played or run in the last few years don't have these problems (Red Hand of Doom, Kingmaker, a true20 "pulp" adventure and so far the pirate Pathfinder AP). The adventure tends to have a reason for all this. I'm not fond of the conceit of...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me to keep reading Princes of the Apocalypse (*significant* spoilers. Also my players keep out)

OK, based on the very favorable reviews here, I took an extra 40 minutes going home to find a store that had the new Princes of the Apocalypse adventure and dropped $52.00 (inc tax) on it since I have a rare free weekend where I can read it through. And after about an hour of reading, I'm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Short rests -- how often in a day?

Hi folks, The issue of how to deal with a fighter's second wind and multiple short rests is being discussed here (http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?435261-Second-Wind-Regeneration). I'd argue this is just part of the "how often can we short rest?". There are, after all, a lot of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Second Wind Regeneration

Eh? I don't really see the problem here. I'm fine with limiting a party to 2 or 3 short rests per long rest and no more than 1 long rest per 24 hours. But I'm also fine with letting a fighter heal twice in a 2 hour rest. Just don't see the issue as being too problematic. That said, if...

    D&D 5E (2014) What does 5E NEED

Errata Realizing this has turned into something of a flame war, I'll jump in anyways. The game could use some errata. There are a few problems at a few levels and a few things that just could stand to be fixed IMO. I think warlocks are a bit over powered when it comes to at-will damage from...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swimming in armor

Am I correct that, RAW, there is no penalty for swimming in armor? That seems like a significant oversight. We've some house rules we are planning on using, but wanted to be sure I'm not missing anything.

    D&D 5E (2014) knocking a flyer prone

Hi folks, In 5e, what happens when you knock a flyer prone? I thought they fell, but I can't find anything, so I'm wondering if that's just my faulty memory or recollection of a previous edition.

D&D 5E (2014) Dex to AC when unconscious?

Dex and Str saves auto-fail when you are down. And I can see the argument for the other 4 still getting "full" saves. Not sure I buy that argument, but still.

D&D 5E (2014) Dex to AC when unconscious?

Am I correct that dex still counts toward AC even when bound, unconscious, etc? Sees a bit daft, but sticks with the "only one AC" thing that 5e seems to like.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Warlock’s At-will damage As Intended?

Looking at ranged rogue vs. Warlock. I'm assuming the rogue always has a sneak attack target (which isn't going to be true) while I vary if the warlock has hex up. The numbers in () are the damage if the blast only can add once. Level Rogue Warlock Warlock...

    D&D 5E (2014) Siege weapons

Yep. My sense is that RAW is really unclear. I think we are in "DM call" range. At least unless we get some errata here. I've got to say, I find it odd the way the siege engine stuff is laid out. As far as I can tell, a few well-placed arrow shots can take out a cannon (just need to do...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Good points. I might have ordered them differently. And I care more about 3rd party support than the OGL per se. But yes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Siege weapons

Humm, I'd never really looked at siege weapons in 5e before, but playing a game soon where they will likely matter. They are curious, because they have a fixed attack bonus. More like traps that just need some actions spent in fact. So, do you get a stat bonus for the shooter on the damage of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Concentration Bugging You?

Humm, I think I've become convinced that there is a bit of a problem. Here's my suggestion for a fix: #1 All concentration DCs drop by 5 (so minimum is now 5). #2 A feat which allows you to have an extra 1st level spell being concentrated on. But if you take damage you lose both spells...

    D&D 5E (2014) On Orcish Grandmothers (=poor spells)

Flame strike. Yes, it's not horrible for a cleric spell, but it's mostly worse than fireball, and two subclasses have access to both. I'm leaning toward making it 8d6 fire and radiant damage and giving the target a -5 save. The "and" means the target takes it as whichever damage type is worse.

D&D 5E (2014) Unarmed strikes. Is a unarmed monk wielding a melee weapon? Is his strike a melee weapon attack?

OK, overly long title says it all. Basic questions: Can a monk use an unarmed strike to trigger their "stunning strike" power? It requires a "melee weapon attack" and I'm not sure if RAW or RAI the unarmed strike is one. Is an unarmed monk said to be "wielding a melee weapon" for...
