Dungeoncraft article: Shifters in MM, deities mentioned

As I'd posted in a couple of other threads, there's an easy work around. Click the Forgot Password link, put in your email address. This will make you a new password, then you can go willy nilly with the logging in. edit: Oh, you already got in. My bad. Still, the advice holds for anyone...

DMG to include a "starter town".

Hommlet or Oakvale (the town from The Sunless Citadel) are my top choices. -TRRW

Corebooks in June!: News from the Alliance Retailer Summit

I'd've much rather they released the PHB and Keep on the Shadowfell at the previously stated times, then moved the DMG up to June so it could be released alongside the MM. Less retailer stress, more me getting my 4e when those guys at the seminar said I would. :p -TRRW

Corebooks in June!: News from the Alliance Retailer Summit

This news makes me sad. :( I'm not saying it's dumb or poorly thought out or anything. Just the announcement's personal effect on me. I don't wanna wait another month for Keep on the Shadowfell or the PHB. *sigh* Oh well, I'll keep carrying the torch. (ninjaedit: Also, I'd like to say...

    4th edition-induced wonky-rules apathy

Funny, I was going to reverse the metaphor and say with the advent of 4e, I'm moving *up* from a Yugo/Storage Shed into a midsize sedan with good fuel economy / a nice 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath condo near the woods. Sure, it's not my dream, but it's better than the stuff I had before it. -TRRW

So, what published 3e adventures are you always going to remember?

I've run Sunless Citadel so many times that I can run it from memory at this point. There's only two other adventures I can say that about: Return to the Keep on the Borderlands and Isle of Dread. I think Savage Tide and Paizo's Pathfinder series will be looked back on as the greatest Mega...

Game Day mini = Spined Devil

Or, each skillgroup (Perception being one of them) has subskills (Spot, Search, Listen, Sense Motive). You choose your Skill Focus in one of the subskills, granting a +5 bonus. -TRRW

How did you teach your kid to play D&D?

Well, Dad and Gramps started me on Ye Olde Keep on the Borderlands when I was 8. I was Geoff, Human Magic User. Some of the spells (ie. the non-damage ones) were a little out of my grasp at the time, but that corrected itself soon enough. It seems to be the median starting age for getting...

So, what do you think of Gleemax?

Loads just fine for me on dialup. Way the heck out in the middle of the rural lands. Buncha whiners. (fakeedit to contribute: You can skip the migration process by clicking the 'Forgot Password' link. It'll send you an email and you can log right in and see the... well, nothingness that's...

What happens to previous edition material on store shelves?

Well, as I still see 3e (and, in a few cases, 2ndEd) on bookstore shelves, I'm pretty sure that the 3.5 stuff will linger there until some misguided soul buys it. I say misguided only in the "was meaning to buy 4e, but didn't know any better" way, not the "hurr hurr still playig erlier edishuns...

D&D 4E What don't you like about 4E so far? (Not a rant)

That I have to wait 'til May (ok, April, whatever) to play it. Otherwise... um... that Paladin isn't a talent tree for Clerics. They're too similar to realistically warrant two separate classes. -TRRW

Stephen Colbert mentions DnD and role-playing in NPR interview

I find it funny that every single one of the monsters mentioned are the ones that are "protected content" and not in the SRD. Also, 'Heal Light Wounds'? Was this an Olde D&D term that us post-1e people didn't get exposed to? -TRRW

DM Tip Jar -- is that going too far?

I have something resembling this at my table. It's called the "Roll Better Dice" cup. Basically, you can roll a better die for your next roll. Want to roll the d30 instead of a d20 for your next attack/check/save? Put a quarter in the cup. Want to roll the Chaos Die (d2-64 from Backgammon)...

Who Do You Want Illustrating 4th Ed.?

Anyone not named Dennis Crabapple McClain or Wayne England. I can deal with just about anyone else. I hate those two, though. More work for Jason Engle and Steve Argyle would be possum. Also, Michael Komarck . -TRRW

The Core Mechanic: New Design and Development

Well, YMMV, but every group I've ever been involved with has hated Unisystem. Not just disliked, but actively hated. I do believe that one player actually said "I wish the person who made this system would cut off their own hands, just so he can't make any more products for the line." Point...

The Core Mechanic: New Design and Development

Um. Hi. If'n Saga is any indication, characters will get a bonus to AC/Defenses based on level; so that 12th level fighter in a loincloth is about as hard to hurt as that 1st level fighter... if the Fighter 1 is in Platemail. Someone write this date down. Please? -TRRW

races & hp; what do people think of a more...well, real/logical approach to HP?

That blue whale has at least 12d8 hit dice (well, that's the Cachalot whale, a blue is actually bigger). Adding a level of Wizard would give it +1d4+Con Mod HP. Why didn't it gain the full d8+Con Mod for being an Animal? It was too busy learning to read. If, in some strange world, a baby...
